From the Principal's Desk....
Dear Lower School Families,
Spring has sprung-well maybe not as much as we had hoped! This is a phrase that may of us are familiar with hearing around this time of year. After a long winter and many disruptions to our schedule due to snow days, two-hour delays, and early dismissals, everyone is ready to be outside and enjoy some sunshine. As parents, spend time with your child outside talking a walk, riding bikes, or even just sitting outside in the sunshine enjoying God’s beauty. You may also want to remind your child that school isn’t over just quite yet. As the end of the school year approaches, some students may experience spring fever. The fourth marking period can be difficult for some students who may be thinking the year is over. Please encourage your child to finish the school year on a positive note, so they can end the year with outstanding progress!
Yours in Christ,
Mr. Shirvinski
The Transformed Heart- What Does It Mean to Love God and One Another?
Question for this week: What one command fulfills the law?
Verse for this Week: Romans 13:8,10 “Let no debt remain outstanding except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. Love your neighbor as yourself. Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfillment of the law.”
LifeTouch Spring Picture Day - April 4
We received the order forms from LifeTouch right before spring break and weren't able to send them home with students in the midst of crazy weather and Easter parties! Order forms were sent home today for Spring Picture Day on Wednesday, April 4. Having pictures taken is optional, and there are no retakes. If you are purchasing pictures, have your child dress up and bring back the flyer with payment tomorrow, April 4! We will call them out of class in the morning to visit the photographer.
Educational Field Trip Request Forms
As a reminder, if your children are missing school due to a family trip or excursion, you need to fill out a Lower School Educational Field Trip Request Form. Mr. Shirvinski will review it and decide if the absence is excused or unexcused. Please see the attached form at the bottom of this newsletter.
Girls' Running Club
This spring, our Lower School will host a running club for any girl in 3rd-5th grade. Practices will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 3-4:30 PM. The program will begin April 4th and last for 6 weeks until May 14th leading up to the girls running in a local 5K. Rachel Block and Courtney Berkhemier, parent volunteers, will be team coaches and coordinators. More information regarding the 5K will be sent to parents when it is finalized. There will be a cost for each girl participating in the 5K. The running club will center around health, wellness, running techniques, and a devotional time during each session.
Please contact Rachel jbl0ck@hotmail.com or Courtney courtneyberkheimer@gmail.com if you have any questions. If your daughter is interested, please return the permission slip (PDF at the bottom of this newsletter) to the Lower School office by Thursday, March 22nd.

Lower School Yearbook - Deadline is April 13
The deadline to order a Lower School yearbook is April 13. Don’t miss the opportunity to buy one and remember the fun activities and friendships from 2017-2018! This year students have the option to create two personal pages in the yearbook. They are able to design and add pictures to the pages all on their own. The two pages will only be in their yearbook, no other book. This is completely optional and will not affect the book if you choose not to do this. The Lower School yearbook costs $15.00 and is ordered at www.treering.com/validate. Use the school code: 101495056158615 to create an account, customize your pages, and purchase a yearbook. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Clutter at lclutter@westshorechristian.org.
Substitute Nurse and Substitute Teachers
We are looking for a substitute nurse, who can help out once in a while when Mrs. Krouch and Mrs. Hoover cannot come to WSCA. We are also looking for additional substitute teachers, PreK-12th grade. Please fill out an application on our website and help us spread the word!
Traffic Reminders
As you are driving in and out of our school parking lot, we would like to remind you to drive slow, not use your cell phones, and notice the new stop sign on Vine Street. In the mornings, please unload "on the curve." Please teach your children to stay buckled until your car is in park. We see many kids standing up or putting their backpacks on while the parent is still driving. Those few seconds saved are not worth it - we would rather your child be safe! There may not be a teacher there to open the car door for them, but they can let themselves out when you've pulled forward as far as you can!
