Stress and Mental Illness

Stress is a feeling that is created when we react to certain events. Fight or flight stress is a good stress because it protects us from tough situations. Bad stress is on-going, this can continue to produce extra stress hormones over a long time which can leave us feeling weak and sick. The body responds to stress by releasing hormones. Stress may cause anxiety, the feeling of being alone and lonely, it can cause forgetfulness and even anger. Some good ways to deal with stress are getting active, getting enough sleep, managing your time, and even having fun. Some unhealthy ways people relieve stress is eating more, acting out in anger and violence, turning to alcohol and drugs, and even extreme dieting.
