Lee Westwood Golf

Insights - February 2016

'Best Trip Ever'

Our students returned to the UK this week after enjoying a fantastic two weeks of golf in sunny Spain. Students from the Darren Clarke Golf School joined us this year for the first time, proving a unique competitive environment for our students.

'I enjoyed the competition days and I don't think that anything could've been better.'

'The food, the people your with, and the courses are excellent. Nothing could have been better for me to be honest.'

'Just a great experience.'

During the first week, a round-robin inter-school 'Ryder Cup' style competition was played, with the trophy and bragging rights heading back to the Lee Westwood Golf School in Essex, with the 2nd Year students winning the title. For the second week, we held a three round strokeplay tournament, with a cut after two rounds. Nathan Grant (LWGS Cheshire) was crowned the champion with an impressive 3-round even par total.

A big thank you for Iberostar Royal Andalus for hosting us. In addition, our students deserve much credit for their behaviour throughout the entire trip. We received many compliments from the staff and guests at the facility, which was fantastic.

England Golf Coach joins Team

We are happy to announce that Jason Davies has joined the Cheshire Lee Westwood Golf School coaching team. Jason has over 20 years coaching experience, both in the UK and Europe. Jason is the North West Regional U18 squad coach for England Golf and the lead county coach for Shropshire and Herefordshire since 2009.

In 1999, Jason went to work abroad for the Gary Player Academy near Stuttgart, Germany, followed by a successful 8 years at the beautiful Golf & Country Club Markgraeflerland, Switzerland. As Head Professional, his team was awarded the Best Junior Training Program by the DGV (German Golf Federation) with a squad which included numerous German and Swiss national players. During that period abroad, Jason competed competitively representing Switzerland in the PGA Team Championship and regularly playing Challenge and Alp Tour events.

PING continue support for Lee Westwood Golf Tour

We are happy to announce that PING have confirmed their continued support of the Lee Westwood Golf Tour for 2016. Thank you to Lee for facilitating this relationship.

The 16 UK qualifying events for 2016 have been confirmed and booking is now available on our new look website - www.leewestwoodgolftour.com. We will look to confirm and announce dates for our 3-4 international events within the coming weeks.

The initial interest and entries for the events has been fantastic, which seems to indicate that we are progressing towards our largest participation on the tour to date.

Outstanding academic results predicted for 2016

Students who are undertaking a BTEC in Sport as part of the Lee Westwood Golf School programme are once again tracking towards some exceptional results in 2016. This is testament to the hard work and excellence provided by our educational partner, Virtual Learning UK.

For the students graduating in June, the predicted results are expected to be well above the national average, with a large number of students attaining the highest grade available (D* D* D*).

Invitation to attend England Golf Conference

Lee Westwood Golf have been invited to attend the Staffordshire County Golf Partnership Conference to be held at the Brocton Hall Golf Club on Thursday 11th February.

This forum will provide us, as a Staffordshire Golf Partner, with the opportunity to talk to representatives from golf clubs and facilities on how the Lee Westwood Golf brand can support them in their aim to increase golf participation at their venues.

We welcome the opportunity and look forward to being part of such an important debate.

Our newest addition

We would like to send out a warm welcome to Lloyd Mercer from Durban, South Africa, who has joined us this month for the remainder of the academic year as a Golf Performance Student.

Lloyd is 22 years of age and plays off a 2 handicap, and is looking forward to making progress with his golf while with us. Lloyd plans to enter a number of competitive events, which will provide the added benefit of being able to see the various sites the UK has to offer at the same time.
