Celebrating Week Three

July 3rd-7th

Big Blue Summer Staff Profile: Hollie Hopf - Aquatics

Hollie (Pingry class of ‘16) returns for her second summer as a swim instructor, lifeguard, and leader of the “Swim Team” elective. Hollie currently swims for Kenyon College, where she is a sophomore and is one of many current or former members of Pingry’s varsity swim teams working under Fiona Murphy and Pingry varsity coach Mrs. O’Mara in the Big Blue pool this summer. Hollie loves working at camp because “The pool staff is so fun to work with and the campers love their swim time”

E - Enthusiasm- Silent Disco

Celebrations was the Big Blue Summer theme of the week and how fitting for the Fourth of July. What better way to end this week than to dance your heart away at a “silent disco?” Favorite staff members DJed through wireless headphones that housed the perfect tunes to jam out to. Campers got to switch between three channels of music to dance off some steam to their favorite hits. Our DJs had a blast competing for the most enthusiastic fans.

H - Honor- Literature with L.I.T.s

Big Blue Summer’s Leaders In Training (L.I.T.) program provides our oldest campers the skills and knowledge they need to become our next C.I.Ts or future counselors. Our L.I.T.s practice leadership skills in a wide range of activities, one of the many favorite activities is the reading nook. The couches in the lower commons create a fun and educational oasis that provides the L.I.Ts and our kindergarten campers with an opportunity to bond through reading. The kindergarteners look forward to seeing their reading buddies in the afternoon, while the L.I.Ts enjoy the opportunity to serve as role models for these emerging readers.
