We are now planning to have a materials distribution. I am being asked to wait on distributing to staff until there is some discussion at tomorrow’s board meeting. As soon as I am able to share the plan, I will. Thank you to the team leads and especially Beth who helped develop the plan.

7. I know that we cannot control student attire and background, but you can send and set the expectation to make them aware.
a. Professional presentation in an on-line setting Attire
Teachers and students should be mindful of their attire and the backgrounds that are visible to colleagues, students, and other guests during all communications involving video. Casual attire, including t‐shirts, sweatshirts, jeans, athletic wear is acceptable. However, teachers and students should not, under any circumstances, wear pajamas, sports undergarments, or other inappropriate attire in these videos or video interactions.
b. Backgrounds
Ensure that you have a work‐appropriate background. Recordings should not be conducted from a bed or in other locations that may be deemed inappropriate. In advance of a digital class or meeting, teachers, students, and staff should review the background of their digital setting and ensure that the backgrounds of all videos are appropriate for student/teacher/staff interaction.
8. Class Lists- We will continue to make them in Google sheets. This was the information we collected last year:
ID # Last Name First Name Gender SPED DYS GT LEP/ ESL IST/504 Reading Level Reading Notes Math Level Math Notes Behavior Other Info.
Please let me know if your grade level wants any changes to this or the way we sorted students. Before we officially begin this process, I will send you some guidelines, the master schedule, guidelines from our IR teachers, the GT schedule of services and HOPEFULLY Dyslexia schedules.
Update 4/2
Here are the updates. Please read in its entirety. I know it is long, and I apologize. I love this group of people and all that you have already accomplished! Thank you for making LWE great, and please let me know how I can help! If I missed something we talked about, please let me know!

3. If you can, please update the Google calendars for students to help parents keep track of Zooms, etc…
4. Make sure each time you are in the building you log your time. This is ESSENTIAL. https://forms.gle/kJzHpq4dgVGBeFdk6
5. You might want to bookmark the newsletter: https://www.smore.com/y8z5c-lakewood-corona-communication
6. Rubrics can be uploaded to platforms for students and parents to view.
7. Please update your work phone voicemail with the guidelines Mr. Chapman provided.
8. Curriculum can be modified to fit your students’ needs with the EXCEPTION of the mandatory * piece in the Home Education Bridge. All students MUST have the * piece uploaded to platforms each week for a grade but any and all other activities can be at the teacher discretion.
9. The grant deadline has been extended. Please apply! Let’s chat about it.
10. Please protect your time and your sanity. Consider sending a grade level letter letting parents know your working hours and helping them understand that after a certain time, they will receive a response the next business day.
11. There is no plan at this time for students to come and get materials from school and/or drop off library books.
12. 4, 5 ELR students will be unenrolled in ELR Google Classroom and enrolled in Barraclough’s Google Classroom only.
13. 3rd grade Barraclough students – we are trying a few things and will reconvene on Monday (Ramirez, Flores, Barraclough, and Gilley) to determine the best platform to get extension materials from Ms. B to her students and for her to be the sole contact of those activities.
14. Contact still needs to be made weekly to parents who are not returning any of your calls, REMIND, DOJO, emails, etc. This contact can be in any format that you see fit (ex. email, DOJO, REMIND, text, call, mail, etc.).
15. Valarie is reaching out to Kelly Rall and Enri Butler on translators for some parents we are trying to still communicate with. She will be following up with specific teachers about needs.
16. Specials will send you an email on Sunday with links for you to upload on your platform.
17. Spirit Week is attached.
18. The new sign up genius is here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b054aaba923abf58-lwesign1
19. Next week we will do How-To videos instead of read alouds for a change of pace!
20. If you don’t have Facebook and want to participate. Just send me your pics!
21. All grade levels and siblings are eligible for Chromebooks. We will distribute Monday. Please reach out to families who may be in need.
Team-
At this time we have been given clearance to hand out laptops to K-2. In the future, we may get ipad clearance but we do not have that now. Please list all kids on the document below. Unfortunately, I will need some help in distribution of laptops and packets Monday so I am leaving them on the Sign Up Genius due to this new information. PLEASE HELP US by getting all kids on technology so we can get out of the packet business. I will help in any way I can. Let me know!
Here is what I need you to do:
1. Use this link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1LeIh0fHzdV0eM3V_ttL3_i-TmzwW1haqaeoAgR3Leok/edit#gid=1043104228 to document students in need of a chromebook.
2. Look at the attached PDF to see if you know of any siblings who have already received a chromebook. There is only one per family.
Distribution:
1. Give each family a copy of the device loaner form and the internet resources form. (Copies are made)
2. Log the computer here: https://forms.gle/1opVh3A22Xh16JE4A
Update 3/26
You guys are TROOPERS! I so appreciate being able to connect with you via the staff meetings and text, calls, emails. I see all that you are doing for your students. Your love and help for our school, each other, our students, our families and me has been above and beyond. I have said so many times this week how lucky I am to be on this team and be in this community. I know I have met with many of you in different capacities today and you have bits and pieces of information but I want to compile that for you here.
1. Chromebook distribution will be happening tomorrow from 4-5 for grades 5 and 6. More information forthcoming for other grade levels. (huge props to those teachers and their communication with parents on a tight turnaround, and also props to Brandon Boehme who took all of the chromebooks out of the carts)
2. If you have not already, please add Valerie, Sonya and Mackenzie to your Google Classroom/ Seesaw platforms as a collaborators.
3. We need to have our platforms up and running for Monday.
4. There is more info to come maybe tonight or tomorrow about grading. We will not be collecting grades until the week of April 6th. There will be one grade per content per week. The students must get feedback each week on at least the one assignment that is graded. This can be in the form of a picture, a conversation, whatever you deem appropriate. There will be a rubric coming that is VERY easy to follow and we can meet about it if there are questions.
5. I will continue to have an optional staff meeting every day. I wanted to keep a consistent time, so unfortunately I am going to move them to 9am because my principal meetings begin at 10 and we have been on call pretty much all day. ( I might have breakfast and look a hot mess but I will be there!)
6. We need to make it clear on our platforms what is the curriculum for the district and what is enrichment.
7. The Sign up genius is updated for next week.
8. Please continue to send me shout outs to add. I am a little behind in adding my own but I do have a lot of them!
9. If you know there is something that I have not added to our newsletter, please let me know so that I can add it.
10. We will not be retaining any students that we did not previously have concerns or conversations about. With that being said, the work that we continue to do while out of school is mandatory.
11. Please send calendar invites for ZOOM times (for staff). Please let your team leads know your Zoom times. We want to make sure we are not overlapping grade levels if there are siblings.
12. Tomorrow is the Ron Clark training from 1-3 if you want to attend! It is Facebook Live so I think you need to like them on Facebook. (Not too sure)
13. Please continue to fill out the Google form when you are on campus. (Hey, look at you being all essential!) Also, please let me know before you go to campus.
(If you have burning questions that I did not address, let me know so I can update!)
Updates 3/24
Team
I am copying you on the notes from the team lead meeting. Please read and ask any questions. There are some small updates today.
1. I will be setting up a daily zoom at 11:30 just to check in. This is a good time to ask questions and see some familiar faces. These will be optional.
2. Please take the survey that came out from the IT department. It came from Jeff Blankenship.
3. Please take the survey that came from Brown University even if you were in the control group of the Home Visit Project.
4. I will be sending a Zoom request to all 3-6 ELA teachers for tomorrow at 1. We will be talking about novel studies. Let me know if you cannot make it. We need everyone there.
5. Begin thinking/ documenting lowest TEKS/ TEKS not taught. We will begin to make lessons as the weeks progress.
6. Think about what PD you need on virtual tools. We have a lot of experts in our midst and we can set up some support groups/ pds.
Huge thanks to everyone who is participating in the Facebook spirit week, has come to hand out packets, who has led Zooms with their kids… you are all doing so much. Beth had a great point when I talked to her earlier… we do not have testing this year so let’s really explore our passions as educators. We can engage kids in meaningful learning without the state determining what that is. Excited to see what all this team comes up with!
Props to K-2 team leads/ Beth for what I hear was a productive meeting!

Instructional Continuation Plan
Instructional Continuity Plan:
Home Education Bridge
Beginning next week, parents can go to this website: https://sites.google.com/hebisd.edu/homeeducationbridge/home
Elementary
10 hours per week that is differentiated based on content:
ELA – 4 hours per week
Math – 3 hours per week
Science – 1½ hour per week
Social Studies – 1½ hour per week
In addition, we will provide a calendar for ideas of how to structure a day. This calendar will include core content, but also infuse supplemental enrichment activities such as movement, art, music, etc.
This website will house all of the materials that are going to be coming out to continue instruction. We know that not all parents have internet access so we will be making copies and handing them out during scheduled times. The times at LWE will be on Monday from 10-11am and 4-5pm. We will need volunteers to use the sign up genius to come and hand out the packets curbside to parents or to walk up students. All students will get a copy (not just one per family). If you volunteer, you must still adhere to the Covid-19 guidelines that are attached to this email. For this week only, we will also have an alternate time on Tuesday as the word gets out. I am going to ask you all to reach out to parents through DOJO, remind or however you communicate with parents with this information. For messaging purposes, you can just copy and paste the following message. I will be sharing to Facebook.
Lakewood Families- HEBISD will begin an instructional continuation plan (Home Education Bridge) this Monday through any dates that our regular instruction is impacted. You can access the curriculum at this website: https://sites.google.com/hebisd.edu/homeeducationbridge/home.
All information also continues to be on the district website www.hebisd.edu. Regular updates will be made on the Lakewood Facebook Page. If you have not already liked the page, please do so (https://www.facebook.com/Lakewood-Elementary-HEB-ISD-267576056688839/). We understand that the digital format might not work for everyone, so we will be at the school from 10-11am and 4-5pm every Monday with paper copies. Parents will come through the front circle drive and remain in their vehicles. Thank you for all you do for our EAGLES!
Expectations for work next week
As the weeks continue to move on, the plan may change. We know that the new normal is taking an adjustment. We will still need you to be available to collaborate and plan. There will be more to come on this. For next week, the focus is on relationship building. We are asking that you call every student and check in on them. I want to make it clear that the district is asking that we not send content at this time but you can/should reach out to families with upbeat messages. When you call next week, make sure that families know about the food plan, the instructional plan and ask if they are in need of any supplies (please look at the script below, the answers will need to be recorded). Please compile any needs/ concerns for the team lead. I will be virtually meeting with the team leads each week at the beginning and end of the week. Grade levels should also plan to virtually meet once a week for now. I will be giving the team leads some topics to discuss within the teams but also this may be a time to brainstorm or collect ideas moving forward. Please work together to find a time that works for your team. I will also post the topics in the SMORE for the week. Some of you may be concerned about calling families from your personal phone numbers. I am including the instructions on how to create a Google Phone number that you can use from your own phone or computer. We will also be using Google Meeting moving forward for ARDS, team meetings and faculty meetings. Instructions are below.
Sample Script for phone calls:
Hi this is xxxxx from Apple Elementary calling to check in with (student name). I hope everyone is ok during this time and I want him/her to know I miss seeing him/her every day. If this is a good time to visit, could I gather some information from your family that would help as we make plans to assist our students? Do you have a personal device that your child can access and use for educational purposes? Do you have internet access in your home? Will you need to pick up a printed copy from your home campus? Thank you so much for your help……the teacher could ask to speak with the student or thank the family and wish them well.
If parents are asking them questions, they should respond. “ I would not want to give you the wrong information and I ask that you check the district webpage for the most up-to-date information.”
Google phone number
