8th Grade Weekly News
Week of August 12-16
General News!
Happy Monday!
This week SMMS will be holding a fundraiser on Thursday evening at Chick-fil-A from 5-8 pm. These funds help support many of our additional activities throughout the school year. What a great opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal and contribute to our school! We hope to see you there!
Last week, a blue clinic record went home along with a letter explaining the importance of having one of these on file for each of our students. if you have not already done so, please take a moment to complete and return to homeroom teachers as soon as possible.
Also, it is not to late to complete the free or reduced lunch paperwork and return to homeroom teachers.
If you are not already using the PowerSchool Mobile App, you may want to give it a try. This app gives parents and students instant access to information they need to stay up-to-date on student grades, performance, and attendance.

Download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play for Android devices.

Our 8th grade academic classes begin at 7:40 am, so it is very important for your child to be on time each day. So far, most students are doing a great job of being here ready to go in their homeroom classes, however, we are seeing a slight increase in the number of late arrivals.
As we mentioned last week, Zero Period and After School Camps are not scheduled to begin until sometime after Labor Day, but there are some opportunities for students to get some extra help before school if needed. Just have them speak to the teacher they feel they need to see, or drop one of us a quick e-mail, and we will try to make some arrangements to suit the need.
One last quick reminder: ALL 8th graders should have a "choice reading book" with them at all times.By carrying it with them, they may be able to take advantage of extra reading time whenever they have some down time one of their classes. We have had a few who have "forgotten" them at home. We would really appreciate your help with a few gentle reminders, so they have them everyday. :)
