DonorsChoose Comes through for Bloom
A big thank you to our DonorsChoose donors, Nancy Benson and Claudia Cruz, for their generous gift of printer cartridges. The ink infusion will do wonders for our writing program! For kids in the upper elementary grades, the “final product” takes on real significance as they work their way through the writing process. Visualizing their names on the cover of a beautifully written and illustrated book keeps their eyes on the prize and the creative juices flowing.
Print-making and the Art of Multiples
In the Garden: Winter Greens
Our balcony container garden is blooming! After years of experimenting we found three cold-weather veggies that love San Francisco’s fog: rainbow chard, Italian parsley and purple kale. We celebrated the harvest with a feast of steamed greens, brown rice and soy sauce. Yum!
Author of the Month: Destin Tang
Visit the Bloom blog to read the latest from January’s Author of the Month, Destin Tang, the highly acclaimed brainchild behind Trouble in Madagascar. His new thriller is a tautly wound tale of vengeance, honor and brotherly devotion. If you are a fan of intrigue and suspense, Goodbye, Lofu will not disappoint!
Novel in the Spotlight
Upper grade students will begin a new literature study unit on the book, The Watsons Go to Birmingham--1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis. This award winning novel explores a pivotal moment in the Civil Rights struggle of the 1960s.
