APP REVIEW
The Nativity Story is a beautifully-illustrated e-book app that retells the story of the first Christmas. It is full of pop up style interactive features that will not only keep children engaged throughout the story but will also take parents back to their own childhood and the vintage pop up books that many would have read when they were little.
The story begins with Many and Joseph making their way to Bethlehem. Upon entering the town, the couple meet various characters in their quest to find a place to rest for the night. Children become part of the story as they are the ones who have to knock on doors and pull on ropes to assist the weary travelers.
The graphics in The Nativity Story are absolutely gorgeous and quite different from anything I have encountered before in an e-book. The narration is also delightful and the music and sound effects complement the story beautifully. If parents prefer they can turn off the narration and simply read the story to their children themselves.
At the end of the story there is an opportunity for children to create music by helping a band of angels play an instrumental version of The First Noel. Users can also explore the original Biblical text from Luke’s Gospel from within the app.
The Nativity Story is available with professional narration and text in 3 languages – English, French and Spanish. There are no adverts or in-app purchases but there is an external link to other apps by Puddle Tap Publishing. Adults should be aware that this is not protected by a parental gate.
If you are looking for a new way to tell the traditional yuletide story to your children then
this app could be just the app for you this Christmas.
