Hello Hornet Families!!!
I hope you all had a restful and uneventful weekend. Being huge sports fans, my family and I spent the day Saturday watching my son's football team earn their first win of the season, Coco Gauff win the US Open, UT beat up on Alabama, and my alma mater, Southern Illinois, take down Northern Illinois. If it were not for my Atlanta Brave losing, it would have been a perfect Saturday. Now I can only hope the Miami Dolphins beat the San Diego Chargers today. However, you and your family spent your weekend, I hope it was enjoyable.
This will be another busy week at the Hornet's Nest. In addition to the learning taking place in our classrooms, each of our athletic teams are ready for some tough competition as they are all in action this week. We have our first PTA Membership meeting Thursday (more information below) and we are preparing to have the first progress report for this grading period available Tuesday, September 12. I look forward to seeing many of you at one of this week's events.

7th grade “A” team put on an exceptional performance. They won the first set, dropped the second set and absolutely dominated the Tigers in the third with some great defense and amazing serving.
Both 8th grade teams fought to the very end before losing to the Tigers in a loud environment at Goryzki.
This week we look forward to taking on Lamar.
INTERNATIONAL EDUCATIONAL TOURS
As some of you may know, our school will be heading on an incredible journey to Spain & Portugal with parents and students in the summer of 2024! Our 12-day tour will allow students to connect more deeply with a foreign culture and history and will showcase a glimpse of so much of what these two unique countries have to offer. You’ll relax on the stunning beaches of southern Spain, marvel at Gaudi’s famous architecture in Barcelona, attend a traditional flamenco evening, and so much more! We hope you’ll join our info session on September 19th to learn more.
This trip will fill up quickly, so please join our informational meeting where we’ll discuss:
● Where and when we’re going
● What we’ll see and do
● Travel logistics
● How your child can earn academic credit
● Flexible payment options that keep the tour affordable
We’ll also share details about how to sign up (space is limited!) and answer any questions you might have.

FREE & REDUCE LUNCH
Last year’s free or reduced-price status will expire on September 26 and students will return to a full paid status unless their families either complete a meal application or they are approved for state funded meal benefits. We ask that you apply for benefits for this school year as soon as possible so there is not an interruption to your student's lunch status.
