KINDNESS WEEK
At Sayre during the month of February we focus on Kindness. Please join your Sayre Shark and help us celebrate Kindness all next week. During this fun spirit week we will be promoting acts of kindness in our school which will give our students something to look forward to and feel good about! Please see our The Great Kindness Challenge week plan and daily theme below.
Here are the linked Kindness Checklist if you wish to participate at home;:
JK and Kindergarten Kind Acts Junior Checklist
1st-5th grade Kind Acts Checklist
The checklist gives students ideas of kind acts they can easily do throughout the school day. The main idea during this week is to remember that even a small act of kindness can easily spread joy to others, allow us to feel good about ourselves, and promotes a sense of strong community.
KINDNESS OPPORTUNITY - The Clean Love Project
With our focus on kindness and practicing what it means to be a Sayre Shark, our school is joining with The Clean Love Project to help with their mission. The Clean Love Project helps women and young girls feel clean, loved and empowered. Please consider donating $5.00 using the link below. Your donation will help to purchase and create kits containing essentials – including hygiene products. Kits are then delivered by The Clean Love Project to homeless and women’s shelters, transitional housing programs, food pantries and school districts. To date, TCLP has distributed more than 40,000 kits! Please help our Sayre Sharks spread kindness to those in need!
RESIDENT OPEN ENROLLMENT
ATTENDANCE
Attendance Letters Clarification:
In Michigan Elementary attendance is recorded twice a day (AM and PM). The attendance letter totals the number of periods (2 periods = 1 day) a student is marked Absent or Tardy. For example: If the letter indicates - Total (Absent and Tardy): 23 this means 23 absent or tardy periods which is equal to 11.5 days. The letters will be updated to clarify total periods.
STEP 1 - When a student is absent 10 days or has 15 days of combined absences and tardies, the office sends an email to notify parents/guardians, and an Attendance Letter in the Skyward Family Access portfolio for parents to view.
STEP 2 - When a student has accrued 15 days of absences or 20 days of combined absences and tardies before March, the office sends an email to notify parents/guardians, and an Attendance Letter in the Skyward Family Access portfolio for parents to view. A mandatory meeting is scheduled with the principal.
STEP 3 - When a student misses 20 days absent or 25 days combined absences and tardies, the office sends an email to notify parents/guardians, and an Attendance Letter in the Skyward Family Access portfolio for parents to view. A referral to the Youth Assistance Office may be made.
STEP 4 - If non-improvement or patterning is found, the office will initiate a referral to the Oakland County Truancy Program.
We understand that for each illness a student may not have a medical note. Often students experience illness that resolves in 24 to 72 hours without seeking the input of a healthcare professional. In the event that your student is frequently absent for illness please consider seeking the advice of your healthcare profession. Whenever your student has a medical/dental/orthodontic/physical therapy/eye care appointment please provide your classroom teacher or the office medical documentation for these types of absences, as those absences will then be medically excused and not count toward truancy totals. If you have questions or concerns about your student's attendance please email or call your student's classroom teacher or the office staff.

These devices are not permitted at school. Please review the Sayre Student and Family handbook. These devices are not allowed because they are communication devices with audio and pictures capability which can be a distraction from the learning process and create community concerns regarding the violation of privacy when worn/used in community bathrooms. If your student is found to be using, or in possession, of these devices the device will be confiscated. Parents/Guardians will be notified and need to contact the office to arrange a time to pick up the device. Thank you for your cooperation!
