What's New in Room 182

Mrs. Peters' 3rd Grade * September 30, 2016

3rd grade's in full swing!

This week was devoted to practicing many of our literacy routines in preparation for targeted instruction, independent practice, and differentiated technology use. I am so inspired by the writer, reader, mathematician, and COLLABORATOR inside each of your students!

Keep an eye out in your e-mail for information regarding conference sign-up and in your student's Daily Folder for upcoming PTO fundraiser and events.

See you soon!

Focus on the Curriculum

ELA

  • Weekly Prefix: Post-

We will go over words on Monday and complete a Matching Activity IN CLASS.

Students will bring home their packets with the (optional) "Read-Around Activity" to practice during the week. Students will also receive their login information for Spelling City, where they have a choice of activities to practice word meaning.

Students will take a Vocabulary Quiz over these words on Friday during class.

  • Comprehension strategies
We will enter into our second reading unit THINKING about how we THINK about our reading... What kind of text is this? What predictions should I make? What do I do if I don't understand what I'm reading?

Math

  • Chapter 1: Number Concepts
I opted to spend one more week mastering place value and rounding. Be sure to try this extra practice at home, if you'd like!
  • Place Value to 10,000 (Use Level 1 and practice number values here.)
  • Rounding to nearest 10, 100, and 1,000 (Extra practice here. Play with No Decimals.)
Our test on this unit, which includes basic addition and subtraction fact families, counting on, place value, & rounding WILL be THIS Thursday.
