A Letter From Dr. Carey April 1, 2022
Dear Enumclaw School District Community,
Traditions Continue
Last Saturday, the Enumclaw Rotary Club was able to sponsor the annual “Daddy and Daughters Dance.” This traditional event, started long ago by the City of Enumclaw, experienced a brief hiatus last year due to COVID and was able to come back this year. The tradition invites fathers and daughters to dress up, gather in a common space, play games, work on a craft and take a picture to memorialize the evening.
This was my second opportunity to participate in this event, and this is an event that doesn’t disappoint those who choose to participate. Aside from the opportunity for the community to come together around this type of event, it also serves as a way to address the social and emotional needs that have taken a back seat the last two years. Creating time for loved ones to talk to each other, smile and laugh together, and generally slow life down enough to enjoy that important person’s time and attention.
I think about the limited amount of time that I spend with my own children. I know that our interests are VERY different from one another. I also know that we can teach and learn from each other. The thing that is missing is time. A date on the calendar, an event that we’ve committed to that forces us to give our most meaningful resource, “time,” to one another. This wonderful community event accomplishes this in a small way and we should strive to duplicate this on a much larger scale!

2022 SPRING STATE TESTING
The Enumclaw School District participates in federal and state mandated assessments including the Smarter Balanced Assessments and the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS). We also use data from district and classroom-based assessments to monitor student progress and provide feedback about each student’s growth. Information about testing is available through our district office and individual schools.
2022 SPRING STATE TESTING
Smarter Balanced ELA and Math will be administered in grades 3–8 and 10. The WCAS will be administered in grades 5, 8, and 11.
*Individual schools will be communicating the specific times to students and families on the days in which testing will occur. More information is available on our website, linked below.
EHS Graduation
Change in EHS Graduation Venue
After completing visits to Auburn Memorial Stadium and Pete’s Pool, and meeting with our graduation production company, we have decided to change our graduation venue to Pete’s Pool. There are a number of reasons that we have decided to make this change.
Challenges with Auburn Memorial Stadium
Auburn Memorial Stadium only affords us 400 additional seats when compared to Pete’s Pool.
Auburn HIgh School will be hosting a recreational league basketball tournament the same day of our graduation, greatly reducing parking spaces for our graduation audience.
We would have to contract with a traffic control company to assist with traffic control for the ceremony.
There is no space at Auburn Memorial Stadium for our graduates to get staged for the ceremony. Students would have to ride the bus from EHS to Auburn in their caps and gowns and then make their way to the field for our graduation ceremonies.
Using Auburn Memorial Stadium would require the school to transport students to the stadium multiple times for practice and for ceremony. It would also require the school to transport the students who are not graduates, but are participating in the ceremony multiple times.
Lastly, Auburn Memorial Stadium is not in Enumclaw.
Benefits of Using Pete’s Pool
Pete’s Pool is OUR stadium and is a significant place in our community.
We have ample parking and can designate some parking for families that are mobility-impaired.
The scenic backdrop at Pete’s Pool is much more visually appealing.
We can add additional seating at Pete’s pool to get close to the seating capacity at Auburn Memorial Stadium.
We have staging options for students at the stadium that will provide easier access.
Based on this information we have decided to make this change. We are now meeting regularly to plan the best possible graduation for our students. We believe that being together as a community at Pete’s Pool is our best option for celebrating the class of 2022. Our next step is to determine the number of tickets that each of our graduates will receive. We commit to providing updates to students and families as quickly as possible. We believe that our students deserve a celebration for making it through the last four years and for graduating from Enumclaw High School.
Thank you for supporting our students and school,
Rod Merrell,
Principal, Enumclaw High School

Voluntary COVID Testing Opportunities
The Voluntary PCR COVID Testing Program Will Remain for All Enumclaw School District Staff as Long as Supplies Last
In collaboration with the state Department of Health, our school district will continue to participate in a state-funded program for voluntary COVID-19 screening and testing that will help contain the virus, protect our communities, and keep students and teachers healthy and safe.
This testing protocol fits into our larger strategy to contain and control the virus. Each precaution we take is an added layer of protection, and when used together, dramatically decreases the risk.
Testing Opportunities for Students and Families- EMS Testing Site Will Close On April 1
It has been announced by King County, the EMS testing site will close on April 1st due to decreased demand. The Auburn testing site will remain open, at this time. There is also a testing site located at the park-n-ride in Bonney Lake.
