Magers Memo
March 2nd, 2018
Four Days! We only have 4 more days-Make EVERY DAY this week COUNT-and enjoy a work day on Friday!
Here is some random information:
- Meagan will be moving her office to the Conference Room where the staff restrooms are after Spring Break. This will give her a little more space for small groups. Her office will once again be a conference room.
- With that being said, Meagan has been cleaning out the closet in that room and all of the materials outside of Bruce's office are up for grab. Please claim them by next Friday. We will be packing them up to send to GSC if not claimed by then.
- We will have the rehearsal for the music program on Monday at 1:30 to include our WINGS students. I apologize for the late notice on this change.
- I will be out of the building next Monday-Wednesday. I will be out of town for the MAESP Conference Monday and Tuesday and at KAC on Wednesday for principal's meetings. Katie will have a substitute on Tuesday and will be in the office to assist with discipline and other office issues. If you have a referral, please see Katie. Meagan does have lessons next week so will be less available than this week.
- Lost and Found will be packed up this week! Please remind your students to check for missing coats.
- Finally, Leaders 4 Life made a positive note and we put them on every students desk after school today. Please check on Monday to make sure that every student got a note and a mint. The goal is that every student will start Monday with a positive thought about themselves or life in general! If you are missing notes, Meagan put extras in the workroom with extra mints. Thanks for your help with this!
- When student return Explore forms, they will get a prize. We will have the prizes in Pow-Wow and will encourage students to turn them in during Pow-Wow.

Feedforward:
Problem: The roots of the big tree are exposed causing kids to trip and rip them up to use as weapons.
Suggested Solution: Get more mulch to cover them.
We put a work order in for mulch some time ago, here is the response:
I received your work order for the playground mulch. Just wanted you to know that mulch is scheduled to be delivered to the school over the spring break. We will put it on the playground as the weather permits after that, we will have the mulch placed on the parking lot so that the flow of traffic will not be affected. The work will be done on a work order that is already in the works w/o # 324017, if you any questions please feel free to contact me anytime.
I just received this email from Scott Wendt regarding our playground which will change what is under our swing sets. Read below....
If you are receiving this email, your site is one of the sites that we have items to address. According to the ASTM safety standards, swing sets should only have two seats in each bay. At your sites we have swing sets that have three seats in a bay. It is easy to make the swings compliant just by removing the middle seat, however this clearly reduces the number of swings the kids will have access to.
The PLAN: We will be adding new swing sets to offset the number of seats we have to remove from your current playgrounds. We will not be reducing the amount of swings for the kids to play on. Also, the new swing sets to be installed will be ADA compliant. They will have tiles underneath instead of the playground mulch. Also we plan to have some different swing attachments that can be put up if you have a student with special needs. One of the keys to having an ADA unit is to put it near a sidewalk or track. We have tentatively identified a location at each site keeping it near the other equipment, but with close proximity to a sidewalk or track. We will verify with each of you prior to starting any of the work.
Basic schedule:
We will start excavating the week of Monday, March 5. A temporary construction fence will be used keep kids out of this area. Swing installation should begin the last week of March or the first week of April. Once the swing is installed, a gravel base will be put down then the tiles. The reason we are starting so early is because of Spring time weather, and the total number of sites to be complete
Springfield Cardinal Information for 3rd-5th grades:
The Springfield Cardinals free field trips are in April. Times on all trips are from 8:45 am to 1:00 pm. All games start at 11:10 am and are preceded by an educational program.
April 16 – 5th grades (Missouri Department of Conservation)
April 17 – 4th grades (Cox Health)
April 25 – 3rd grades (Ky3)
Here is important information:
· I will be the only SPS employee with access to editing rights on the ticket/meal spreadsheet.
· All students and teachers will receive 1 free ticket. The Cardinals are also providing 3 additional tickets for chaperones (per classroom).
· Please refrain from scheduling other field trips on these days due to limitations with bus availability.
· Please use the district field trip found here to secure parent permission.
· We are still working out lunch details. However, similar to last year, students can (1) pick up a ballpark provided lunch or (2) bring their own lunch.
o Coolers should be secured in bus seats or undercarriage compartments (where available).
· The Cardinals will do their best to accommodate chaperones in sitting in the vicinity of their child, but there are no guarantees they will be able to seat them directly together.
· Please ask students/parents to dress appropriately as the Cardinals expect all games to be played despite cool temperatures or rain.
· Please have your Administrative Assistant secure buses via TripTracker.
SPS starts MAP testing April 23rd so you will need to be flexible working around the 3rd grade testing schedule.
Behavior Management Lesson may come in handy the week before Spring Break (if you need a laugh)!
We will be participating in this next week-just FYI
National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) is coming! During March 5 – 9 we will celebrate breakfast and emphasize the benefits of eating it at school. (We are out of school on the 9th so the promotion will run through the 8th.)
To encourage students to join us for breakfast each day, we will be running a fun promotion for a few select elementary schools (Gray, Wilder, Field, Harrison, Sequiota. McBride. & Disney).
Here’s how it will work:
- Each classroom will receive an ACE poster to be hung in the cafeteria, where breakfast is served!
- During NSBW, each student will receive a sticker when they eat breakfast at school. The students will place that sticker on their designated class poster that corresponds with a colored plate. Each plate will be labeled Monday – Thursday. At the end of the week, all of ACE’s plates should be full!
- The classroom with the most breakfast participation (percentage) will be rewarded with a fun pizza party, on a teacher approved date.
It’s simple!
- Aramark will provide one large ACE poster per class. If breakfast is served in the cafeteria, posters will be hung there.
- Stickers will be provided during breakfast each day during NSBW. Those that eat a school breakfast will place the stickers in the designated sticker spots found on the poster.
- At the end of the week, the classroom with the most breakfast participation (as a percentage) will be rewarded with a pizza party. The teacher can decide which date that this event will be hosted.
- We will have posters to your sites next week and each one will have a teachers name on it. We have included some PA announcements to help increase participation with this promotion. If you can have your Administrative Assistant read the PA announcements each day we would be very appreciative. Please let us know if you have any questions.
Thank you so much! Kim
