A Message from the Principal
February 1, 2021
Dear Holy Family Catholic School,
Happy Catholic Schools Week!
I hope that you were able to see our livestream 75th Birthday Bash Pep Rally this morning, I was so impressed with all the talent that the different classes brought to the event. Each class created its own original cheer and preformed it for the whole school, and the band, under the direction of Ms. Kathy Bernal, kept us all dancing! What a great way to kick off our Catholic Schools Week celebration.
We are also celebrating our 75th birthday with the opening of our virtual Pot O’ Gold 75th Birthday Bash bidding. It is fun and easy to bid, and have already been outbid on one of my favorite auction items. Bid early, and bid often! Go to http://PotOGold2021.ggo.bid to register and start bidding.
We had our very first Zoom PK and K Meet and Greet last Wednesday and it was well attended by highly interested new parents who were very happy to meet Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Yonkers. My thanks also go to Mrs. Maria Orand and Angie Uptmore for representing the parent community during this event. Don’t forget to tell your friends and family members about our great school; Mrs. Griffith and I are happy to talk with perspective parents and their children.
Ms. Meg Ruhter, HFCC Coordinator of Youth Ministry, and I met with Educate the Children Honduras representatives Mr. Gus Villanueva and Mr. Walter Welborn last week. We discussed ways the church and school can come together to support this great ministry and mission. Be on the lookout for more information about upcoming school service projects in support of Educate the Children Honduras.
HFCS Student Book Club
February 22, March 1, and March 8
Pemberton Library, 3:30 to 4:30
Snack Provided
It’s time for another student book club! I have been consulting with the avid readers in 4th grade about offering another book club and they voted A Wolf Called Wander as our next book. We will start our book club on Monday, February 22, and will meet in the library, practicing social distancing, from 3:30 to 4:30 for three consecutive Mondays. A snack will be provided. Students must bring their own books to the meeting. RSVP to awalters@hfcsfw.org. This book is recommended for ages 9 and above. Amazon had this to say about A Wolf Called Wander: “This gripping novel about survival and family is based on the real story of one wolf’s incredible journey to find a safe place to call home. Illustrated throughout, this irresistible tale by award-winning author Rosanne Parry is for fans of Sara Pennypacker’s Pax and Katherine Applegate’s The One and Only Ivan.”
We are all blessed to be immersed in Catholic education, either as a student, parent, teacher or staff member. This week, during Catholic Schools Week, take a moment to think about how your experience of Catholic education shaped your life, and say a silent prayer of thanks to the people who made your education and formation possible. Attending St. Anthony’s Catholic School in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin as a child shaped my life forever; I am grateful to the School Sisters of St. Francis, I would not be a principal today without the love and education I received from them.
God bless,
Ann Walters
