Shining Star & Energizer Bunny Recognitions
Nominated by Kevin Kintop, Arise Academy Program Administrator
Joy Gardner from Kent Island Elementary School accepted the Energizer Bunny Award as a representative of all of the teachers, supervisors, and administrators who helped to make the 2021 summer school program possible.
Thank you to all of our summer school staff who went above and beyond to make summer school a big success!
Joy Gardner Energizer Bunny Recipient
This award is being presented to Joy Gardner, a teacher from Kent Island Elementary School, who worked several weeks over the summer instructing 1st graders at our Kent Island High School summer school site. Joy is receiving this award as a representative of all of the teachers, supervisors, and administrators who helped to make the 2021 summer school program possible. In order to offer programs at 5 different sites this year, for 8 weeks, after 15 months of COVID, we needed a lot of people. We had teachers from every level agreeing to work as substitutes when needed, in classrooms for one, two....up to eight weeks, and as site coordinators. We had teachers who were retired, teachers who just graduated and were getting ready to start their first teaching job, and everything in between. Administrators from almost every school spent time at our sites, providing support to the teachers and site coordinators. Curriculum supervisors helped plan, order, and deliver instructional plans and materials so that the teachers could implement the program. The bottom line is that everyone deserves this energizer bunny award for their dedication to helping our students bridge the gap.
Becky Frazier Shining Star Recipient
This award is being presented to Rebecca (Becky) Frazier, a paraprofessional from Centreville Elementary School, who went above and beyond to help make our Queen Anne's County High School summer school site a success. Becky is receiving this award as a representative of all of the support staff that worked this summer to make sure that our program ran smoothly. We are grateful for the folks in transportation who helped organize buses and safely got students to school, for the members of Sodexo who made sure we had breakfasts and lunches every day for kids, for the custodians who moved furniture between buildings so that classrooms looked like they should for some of our smallest learners, for school secretaries and board employees who helped ensure that payroll was accurate and employees got paid, and finally for instructional assistants who worked closely with children in the classrooms to help them learn during the summer. As with everything we do in schools, our summer program would have never gotten off the ground without all of these shining stars
