"There's a lot of moving parts in this fresh spin on Cinderella, the first in a four-book series. First, we've moved from a fairy-tale kingdom to a post-World War IV future in New Beijing. Plagued by her stepmother and shunned by society for being a cyborg, Cinder keeps her head down as the city's best mechanic until she catches the eye of the dashing Prince Kai."--Booklist
From dancing squirrels to bashful gorillas to spiteful killer whales, Jeffrey Masson and coauthor Susan McCarthy bring forth fascinating anecdotes and illuminating insights that offer powerful proof of the existence of animal emotion. Chapters on love, joy, anger, fear, shame, compassion, and loneliness are framed by a provocative re-evaluation of how we treat animals, from hunting and eating them to scientific experimentation.
"Fifteen-year-old Kyoko is the incognito princess of Earth, attending public school anonymously while her twin sister, Ui, has been asleep since birth. Kyoko sets off on a quest to gather the 12 god stones to save Ui's life, but as an added bonus Kyoko hopes Ui will take over her princess duties and stop those pesky riots going on outside the palace." --Publisher's Weekly
