Early Life

He was born on August 4th of 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Ann Dunham and Barack Obama Sr. His mother was from Kansas and his father was from Kenya. He was raised by grandparents. Obama worked his way through school and moved to Chicago with the help of scholarships and student loans.

Professional Life

He attended Harvard Law School and went on to lead a very successful voter registration drive before going on to teach constitutional law at University of Chicago. In 1996 he was elected to the Illinois Senate. He was elected to the US Senate in 2004. He ran in the 2008 election and defeated John McCain. His campaign ran on the promise of change and he was sworn into office January 20th, 2009. President Obama was re-elected into office when he defeated Mitt Romney in the 2012 election. He is a member of the Democratic Party.

President Obama read every book of the Harry Potter series with his daughter Malia.

Domestic and Foreign Policy

Domestic:

  • Obama wants to enact policies to advance energy and climate security. He wants to promote clean energy manufacturing and create more jobs in clean energy.
  • He thinks it is very important that our nation become more competitive in academics and strives to ensure that all children of the United States has access to a competitive education
  • Obama wants to expand the funding for the Civil Rights Justice department and supports same-sex marriage. He also supported the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"


Foreign:

  • After wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Obama wished to remove all troops by the summer of 2012 and did. Now he wishes to help the Pakistani people and government
  • He would like to reform immigration policy to include a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants (Dream Act)
  • He has made foreign aid the core of his foreign policy
