Where the Adventure Begins...
Happy Friday!
Dear Parents,
What a beautiful week! This week our staff had the opportunity to participate in an after school professional development titled Does All Really Mean All? The professional development focused on us as a staff taking collective responsibility for all students on our campus no matter the classroom or program. Here at ECS our goal is to foster learning in everyone and provide strong instructional strategies to support all students at their current level and foster their continuous growth.
The article spoke of closing the performance gaps and committing to a cycle of continuous improvement in our schools. The critically important question that will bring this full circle is: What do we want for every student here at ECS? This encouraged our staff to think of a child who is precious in their life. Many staff members chose their own children, nieces, nephews, or godchildren and placed pictures of these on a bulletin board in our front office. Each day as staff members enter the front office they are faced with the question; Is it good enough for them? When considering strategies and improvements in the classroom teachers will always remember that if it's good enough for their own children then it's good enough for each of our precious students at ECS.
Our annual ECS Food Drive runs for the next two weeks. Please send any donations in with your child. Non-perishable foods, toiletries, etc. are great things to send in. We will work with the students to sort and pack up the items collected and donate them to Frisco Family Services. Thank you, in advance, for your contributions.

Valentine Parties - Are You Ready?
Our Valentine Parties will be on February 14th! Here is a checklist of things you need to know:
1. Bring your car tag!
2. Provide one valentine for each student with ONLY their child’s name on them.
3. Do not send separate cards for boys and girls
4. No candy with nuts – or find a candy alternative (pencil, stickers…) if you choose to send a small goodie with the valentines. This is certainly not a requirement.
Parenting Tips and Tools
Children often resort to whining because it works! Do you run into that in your home like I do in mine?
Don’t reward whining. Don’t give in and buy the candy. But there is never a reason to be less than kind about it. Responding to the desire with empathy ("You are so disappointed that I said no; you really wish you could have that candy...") helps him feel less alone with his disappointment. I often tell my little one that her whining let's me know we need to practice accepting no more often. There's nothing wrong with finding something else that will make him happy, like a shiny red apple or a trip to the playground. That teaches him to look for win/win solutions. If, by contrast, he feels like he only gets what he wants by whining, he’ll become an expert whiner. Embrace the opportunities to practice accepting no and finding alternative solutions!
I want to hear from YOU!
Hey ECS Parents! I've created a new forum called The ECS Parent Place! As your child's principal, I want to make sure I keep open lines of communication with all of you! I'm hoping this will turn into a great forum where you can post questions, feedback, and praise so that I can stay better connected with you and your perspectives. I look forward to hearing from you! Just click this link and then look for the hot pink circle with the plus sign. Click on that and you're on your way! I'll keep an eye out so I can respond to your posts. Thanks!
