Indian Knoll Elementary

Letter from the Principal

Happy New Year!

We are excited to jump into 2019 with a strong academic focus. Our Firebird students are working hard to earn Class Dojo points and we are rewarding them on a consistent basis. We celebrated with the Hawk Bird House as they won the House Carnival party this quarter and will host another 4th/5th grade honor roll assembly at the end of the month. Our students have also been busy with extracurricular activities. Our Techno Wizards did an amazing job at the regional competition with 23 first, second and third place entries. Twelve of these students will represent IKES at the GA State Technology Competition in Macon. Additionally, we are excited to host our IKES talent show at Sequoyah High School this year, so don’t miss out on the fun this year.

I want to take a moment to congratulate Mrs. Tammy Grummer who is our 2018-19 Support Staff Employee of the Year. Mrs. Grummer serves as our school bookkeeper but also takes on many other duties. She is responsible for textbooks, substitute teachers, runs errands, organizes and orders supplies, and jumps in to help with special events. She sets the bar very high and meets all timelines while taking on a multitude of other tasks. She will represent IKES at the district level for this prestigious award.

Thanks in advance for your participation and involvement in our school events. Indian Knoll Elementary School continues to foster collaboration through engaging activities and school programs. We are so fortunate to have involved parents to support our efforts. Let’s make 2019 the BEST year ever!

Mrs. Colleen DeLosh – Grades 3-5

Mrs. Lori Waycaster – Grades K-2

In guidance this semester, we will be focusing on Character Education in all grade levels. Students will be learning to identify emotions, develop and strengthen friendships, and problem solve for the future.

We would like to thank everyone who participated in the MUST Ministries Toy Drive through our school program, IKES Believes in Helping Others. The needs of many Cherokee County families were met due to the generosity of our Indian Knoll families.

If you or anyone you know is in need of resources, including food or clothing, please feel free to contact either one of us at: or

IKES Spirit Night at Buffalo's Cafe!

We had an incredibly successful spirit night at Buffalo's Cafe on December 6th! Many students and families attended and because of your support, we raised over $300.00 for IKES. A HUGE thank you to Buffalo's Cafe, who awarded 10% of ALL sales from every customer, not just IKES families, on this date to IKES! In addition to bringing funds back into our school, a great time was had by all. The students enjoyed the coloring contest, the very talented balloon artist, and of course, the delicious food! Congratulations to Mrs. Philpot's Kindergarten class who had the highest class participation for the night. Mrs. Philpot was awarded a $50.00 Buffalo's gift card! Each of Mrs. Philpot's students won a free kid's meal for Buffalo's as well! Way to go!!
