I Can Code: Hour of Code Success!

I am so pleased to announce that 100% of our children, approximately 600 students, participated in Hour of Code last week! Collectively, they coded for a total of 34,140 minutes! Thanks to all of you for contributing valuable class time to this important initiative. Many students expressed that they wanted to learn more about coding and planned to try some programming activities at home. Again, we used code.org and tynker.com last week, but there are lots of other resources out there!

There are many ways in which to integrate coding into your curriculum. If you want more information or resources, please let me know!

Pictures Wanted

The district is looking to change the rotating pictures on the top of the District 64 website, as well as our school's homepage. If you have any pictures of your students, please send them to me at rlabuz@d64.org, and I will pass them along to Allison, our district webmaster.

  • Pictures must be horizontal in orientation.
  • The best pictures include multiple students.
  • Non-cell phone pictures are preferred.
  • We are looking for all sorts of pictures--students do not need to be using technology in them.
  • Students will not be named.

Tech Tool: Popplet

Popplet is a tool for the iPad ($4.99/free lite version) and web (free) that allows users to organize ideas. Students use Popplet to create mind-maps that can capture facts, ideas, thoughts, and images in an organized format. It helps students think and learn visually and allows them to create relationships between ideas.

Happy Holidays to you and yours!
