In the Know
An Internal Newsletter from the SISD Communications Dept.
If you’ve recently driven by the new Sherman High School construction site, you’ve seen an abundant amount of dirt and bulldozers in action. If the opportunity to drive by the construction site and relish in its progress has escaped you, don’t worry. Sherman ISD has you covered.
Starting in April, district staff, parents, and community members will be able to see day-to-day construction progress of the new high school online. Two high-definition web cameras have recently been installed at the site by photo construction company OXBlue. One camera is positioned on the northwest side of the project with the second located on the southeast side. Each camera will take a picture approximately every ten minutes, and the images will be uploaded to a live web link.
“When people visit our website we want them to feel as if they are part of the construction,” SISD Assistant Superintendent Dr. Tyson Bennett expressed. “The camera angles have been positioned to give viewers the best optical views of construction for the main building, multipurpose activity center, and athletic fields.”
The live web link will give online visitors the option to download photos of the construction project directly to their device. The website also allows people to view and download an automatically generated time-lapse video of the entire constructions project at any time.
Sherman ISD Director of Communications Kimberly Simpson said that the district is excited to provide the community with a convenient way to stay connected with the construction of the new high school and overall bond progress.
“We’ve continuously provided weekly video updates that feature our construction progress and our community expressed how much they appreciate the production of those videos,” Simpson said. “We are now enhancing our community’s bond experience and providing an interactive tool that connects them to the construction in real-time from anywhere in the world.”
Each camera contains a wide-angle lens with a heavy duty enclosure developed for the construction industry. The cameras also include unlimited remote storage which will allow the cameras to operate each day of construction until the project is complete.
“As we see the school emerge from the ground, we want our community to feel engaged in the construction process and take pride in the new Sherman High School,” Bennett said. “We are forever grateful to our community for making the new SHS a reality.”
In 2017, voters approved a $176 million bond election to address several district needs, which included the construction of a new Sherman High School. August 8, 2018, marked the start of construction of the new school that will welcome students at the start of the 2020 school year. Statewide Birth-Five Needs Assessment Survey
Commissioner of Education Mike Morath announced today that the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the Texas Early Learning Council are conducting a statewide birth-five needs assessment to better understand the needs of those accessing, providing, and supporting early childhood programs and services for children ages birth to five.
As part of this needs assessment, the Council is conducting a statewide survey from March 25 through April 5, 2019.
The survey is intended for:
- Families;
- Staff of early childhood programs and services (childcare, Head Start, public prekindergarten, early childhood intervention (ECI) and home visiting);
- Staff of early childhood organizations (membership organizations, advocacy organizations, workforce boards, ESCs, etc.); and
- Community organizations/partners (businesses, health service providers, local governments, religious organizations, etc.).
The survey can be accessed at: https://tea.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cUeyDqwqLh2u8V7.
Questions intended for families and staff of early childhood programs and services are available in both English and Spanish.
The survey results and the statewide needs assessment will be utilized by the Texas Early Learning Council to establish a statewide strategic plan. The strategic plan will focus on improving coordination and collaboration, promoting partnerships, increasing quality, reducing duplicative efforts, efficiently utilizing resources, and easing a child’s transition into kindergarten.
The statewide birth-five needs assessment is required for the Preschool Development Grant awarded to Texas by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and U.S. Department of Education. This grant is a collaboration between the Texas Department of Agriculture, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, the Texas Department of State Health Service, TEA, the Texas Head Start State Collaboration Office, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, and the Texas Workforce Commission.
Sherman-Denison MPO Survey
The MTP will guide federal, state, and local funding over the next 25 years to address congestion and transportation needs in the North Texas region. Part of this plan is to survey residents within Grayson County on their wants and needs. The survey result will count towards the scoring.
Please take the time to complete the survey and makes comments to help keep Sherman Projects at the top of the list.
