Unit Summary
NOTE: Each K-12 student must actively use the technology. This is the main focus of this assignment. A lesson in which the instructor shows a video or demonstrates a concept using the computer will not suffice. The K-12 students themselves must use the technology.
Subjects Area(s) (List all that apply)
Grade Level
Pre-Service Teachers/Post Secondary Education
Lesson Objectives:
- Incorporate the appropriate use of technology (to be used by the K-12 students) into the lesson plan procedure and learning objectives.
- Evaluate peer lesson plans for effectiveness and student learning potential.
- Reflect upon and revise the lesson plan to include strategies that promote learning among diverse learners
Procedures
2. Go to the following web sites to access lesson planning information.
Writing Lesson Plans:
Sample Lesson Plans:
- http:www.lessonplanspage.com/index.html (in the middle of the page choose subject, then examples)
Writing Student Objectives/Learning Outcomes:
- Use the Radio James Objective Builder to develop clear and thorough objectives.
- http://eduscapes.com/tap/topic69.htm (words to use in writing good objectives)
Creating Grading Rubrics:
3. Choose a topic and develop your lesson plan.
Save your lesson plan in your Project 2 folder on your jump drive (keep the .rtf extension).
You might want to meet with a current K-12 teacher prior to developing your lesson plan to discuss valid topics for facilitating your lesson in the teacher's K-12 classroom. You are not required to use this lesson plan. You have the option to create another later in the semester as you discover new resources.
Be sure to take a close look at Graphite (Links to an external site.), a site recently found. I think it will be quite valuable to you as you explore the Common Core standards.
Using the above sites, determine the specific Kansas subject area and grade level standard, benchmark, and indicators that are addressed in your lesson. The standard(s) must be pasted directly from the Kansas State Common Core Standards.
Remember, these standards/benchmarks/indicators are grade specific and content specific. The teacher you are working with may request that you write a lesson plan to address a particular standard/benchmarks to address. Usually the instructors will let you choose but be sure to discuss this with them.
It is essential and required that you include the use of technology that is relevant to the K-12 learner who will participate in your lesson. Although you might use technology to present the lesson, it is required that the K-12 learner use the technology to enhance their learning.
Be careful when you write your Student Objectives/Learning Outcomes. You must include meaningful action outcomes statements to describe that students will learn. Be sure that students are participating in some higher level thinking during your lesson(i.e.: comparing, contrasting, analyzing, creating, revising, reflecting, etc.)
Number your statements and begin each objective with a measurable action word.
4. Post your first draft of the lesson plan as an attachment in the Project 2 First Draft dropbox (linked from the assignment page).
5. Evaluate your partner's lesson plan using the Lesson Plan Peer Evaluation Rubric. The rubric will be provided on the Assignment Page.
- Your partner will be assigned by the instructor and will be available via the Assignment Page.
- Be sure to fill out the rubric completely including comments.
6. Revise your lesson plan based on the evaluation you received.
- Submit your revised lesson plan to the Project 2 Drop Box by the due date.
- Be sure to review the Lesson Plan Rubric linked in the Project 2 Drop Box to check your project for completion prior to submitting it.
