The Healthy Choices Bulletin is a monthly summary of prevention resources for school staff to review and share with students and families. This edition features several different links to important resources for parents/caregivers. School teams are encouraged to include them in their school newsletters and communications with families. Many schools are choosing to use the first half of 3/2 to focus on essential student wellness topics. For high schools, please consider looping in your school based substance use support staff. Edible Marijuana Dangers

This article discusses how marijuana edibles are often presented as everyday sweets: cookies, candies, popcorn and beverages. This can be tricky for young children. It also gives practical tips for parents to be able to keep marijuana out of the hands of children.

Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation Resources

The Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation offers a variety of online learning opportunities on topics related to substance use disorders, alcohol and drug prevention, violence prevention, behavioral health issues, and more.

Specifically, Kids, Families & Addiction: Empowering Prevention is going to be offered this coming Wednesday. This training will to focus on the dynamics of family addiction through the lens of prevention. It will discuss resilience strategies and coping skills that support, inform and empower children, families and communities.

14 minute Podcast - What if your teen's in trouble with substances?

School staff - this is a great, short podcast that shares some simple strategies for parents, as well as an overview of adolescent brain development. If you would like to add to a school newsletter, simply cut and paste this YouTube link and share in any electronic communication with families.

Featured Provider - Charlie Health

Charlie Health offers personalized, virtual mental health and substance use treatment for teens, young adults and their families. Their Intensive Outpatient Program is designed for youth ages 11-30 who are in need of more support than one time a week counseling. Charlie Health provides comprehensive treatment that includes group, family and individual therapy.

They have trauma-informed masters level clinicians who use evidence-based therapy techniques including CBT, DBT, and EMDR. They also provide experiential therapies that use music, art, dance, movement and meditation. They have specialized tracks that include DBT, LGBTQI, Trauma and Substance Use.

Additionally, Charlie Health offer a free Provider Support Group for anyone who delivers mental health care. See this link for more details.

Currently, they have no waitlist and work with all commercial insurances including Medicaid and OHP.

PPS Student Wellness Advisory Group Training Video

This student leadership group formed with the goal of bringing student voice to substance use prevention activities in PPS. They created and wrote this training video as a way to share important information and strategies with staff.
