Message from the Principal
Welcome to a new and exciting year at Hunter Street Elementary School! We are looking forward to another successful year filled with learning and fun. Our school is special because of you - a group of committed and terrific people who learn and work together as a family.
We desire the best for every child. Success isn’t accidental. It is the result of a focused team effort of staff, students, and parents. Our staff of dedicated teachers and school personnel has the academic and personal success of each student as the primary focus of our instructional program. We employ every resource available to support the growth and future of the South Carolina Graduate - one that has World Class Knowledge, World Class Skills, and characteristics displaying integrity, self-direction, and interpersonal skills. We want our students to be the best version of themselves.
Students will have varied experiences to learn and work to meet their full potential. Parents, we encourage you to have regular conversations with your child(ren) about school and their work. Parental involvement shows children that school is important and that you are committed to their success. As a team, we can accomplish great things!
If you would like to know more about our staff, please visit www.york.k12.sc.us/hss and browse through the Staff section where you will find a picture and biographical information on each staff member. We cannot wait to start the 2022-23 school year!

Student Drop Off
Please prepare yourself for traffic congestion during the first month of school. Each year we experience a high volume traffic during the morning hours. Once all programs have begun and students & staff have routines mastered, traffic will thin out. We ask that you be patient with us as we work through the process. You should see a marked difference in traffic after Labor Day. Please note that our SRO will be directing traffic in the morning and the afternoon so that you are able to enter and exit the campus.
You can help us keep the line moving at a steady pace each morning by following these procedures:
- Enter and exit the campus via Alexander Love Hwy. The Hunter Street entrance is for staff and buses only. Please do not use this entrance for dropping off students.
- Students may not be dropped off at the front entrance. They must be dropped off at the side in the car line between 7:15 and 7:41 am.
- Make sure your child is ready to exit your vehicle as soon as traffic stops. Have book bags and lunch bags closed and in hand so that exiting is quick. There will be adults in the car line to assist as needed.
- The morning car line will be cut off at 7:41 am each day so that staff and students may be in the classroom on time. At that point, parents will need to park in the large parking lot (not the staff lot) and walk students into the building. Please keep in mind that teaching & learning begins promptly at 7:45 am.
- Students arriving after 7:45 must be signed in by an adult.
Student Pick Up
Student pick up will begin a little later this year. Students will not leave classrooms until 2:15, so it will be a few minutes before the car line begins to move. Please help up by following these procedures:
- Display your car rider sign where it is easily seen by staff. The best way is to hang it from the rear view mirror or on the sun visor. We cannot see a sign that is laying on the dash.
- Keep your sign displayed until your child is in the car. Staff check the names at several points in the line to ensure students are in line and waiting for your vehicle.
- Pull as far forward in the line as possible; please do not leave spaces.
- If you need to buckle your child into a car seat, please pull forward into the big curve in the loop and assist your child. This will allow us to continue loading cars instead of blocking traffic.
