Celebrating African American/Black History Month
February is National African American/Black History Month.
Thank you to our student organizations and ASB for helping MT celebrate.
Student Equity Council, Black Student Union, Majorettes Club all have some plans to share knowledge and celebrate Black History Month.
In addition, Flipgrid resources were shared with all staff.
Here are a few ways to celebrate:
- Visit the Mills Station Arts & Cultural Center (10191 Mills Station Rd, Sacramento) on Thursday and Friday from 3 – 8 p.m. or Saturday from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
- Save-the-Date: Join the EGUSD workshop, “How Civic Engagement Can Create Change: African American Women and the Fight for Civil Rights” on February 8, 2022.

Staff and Student Health and Safety
The N95 masks are still available for staff and students who have not received them. They are the type that goes around the head.
They will be available during lunches
MTHS is closed to Open Enrollment starting with 2022 -23
While we have already been closed to transfers, EGUSD has announced that we are now closed to Open Enrollment as well starting with 2022-23. Enrollment will continue for those who live within the boundaries at this time. Available schools are listed on the EGUSD website.
Students who are here on Open Enrollment already may remain as long as they continue to meet the requirements. You do not have to submit any new paperwork.
Students on Open Enrollment at EHMS, will not be able to enter MTHS. Open Enrollment at EHMS, per District policy, was only for EHMS as is true for all who enter a middle school on open enrollment. While we know that can be concerning to families with students at MT who have younger siblings that will not be able to enroll due to the closure, we want you to be aware with time to consider your options.
Important Items for Mustang Success
EGUSD Board Approved New Graduation Requirements
These are in effect for the class of 2022 and beyond. With this coming very late in the school year, there are sure to be questions.
Please do NOT send students to counselors to discuss this.
Counselors will be available outside at both lunches (A and B) on Feb. 1 and Feb 3 to answer questions if seniors have questions.
Due to enrollment and class size, we will not be making changes to schedules for term 4. There is no space to do that equitably.
For course selection, since most academic advising has already occurred, a few students may choose to make a change that wasn't on their 4 year plan; especially Juniors. Thus, if any junior desires to make a change they can do so when choosing courses. However, they must also change the course on their 4 year plan so that counselors are aware of the change the junior desires. We will use the 4 year plan when we have a question about which course the student intended.
The main changes that are included in the document are:
*no speech requirement
*validating experience replaces senior math requirement (some will still need senior math so read carefully)
*World Language 20 credits of same language OR World Language 10 credits and VAPA 10 credits to graduate
*TA credits limited to 10 credits throughout High School
Conflict Mediation - refer someone else or self refer
Struggling students? Reporting incidents or concerns
- refer students in "drama" or in "need" to conflict mediation
- seek help by connecting with counselors or admin as needed
Students can self refer to conflict mediation as well. See the form above for referrals.
Remind students of our Anonymous Incident Reporting system on our website. It allows for anonymous reporting of bullying, self harm, violence, harassment and more. If the person allows us, we can also communicate two way to get additional details while they still remain anonymous if they choose.

Feelings Wheel
Health and Safety FIRST - masks on and no food deliveries allowed
Thank you to all who have continued to respect our safety rules/policies.
No Food Deliveries -
As sent at the beginning of the year, all staff members have been instructed to not have potlucks due to COVID safety protocols AND we will NOT accept food deliveries of any kind at the front office nor through gates, etc.
In addition: Our school does not allow deliveries of food items from third party vendors such as Grub Hub, DoorDash, Uber Eats, etc. This is to ensure the safety of our staff and students. We cannot have strangers coming to the school gates/main office to make transactions with students. These items will be refused.
When a student takes a delivery through the gates, the items will be taken for pick up after school and discarded if not picked up.
Remember, all students receive free lunch at MT this year. There is no need for these deliveries so please respect the policy.
Masks on and other protocols continue:
Daily protocols:
- Wear Masks indoors - mandatory regardless of vaccination status
- Hand wash and sanitize often - entrance/exit of rooms
- Have up to date daily seating charts/group charts, and accurate attendance records - this matters so much
- Do not come to school if you have symptoms - staff contact admin and students/families contact the school for admin to then follow protocols directed by nurses in contact with the county and health authorities
- Recommended wear masks in large groups outdoors - our lunch and passing periods for example
- Help remind students of the protocols as you pass by and in your classrooms/offices, etc.
