Sugar Hill Elementary "Feed & Read" Curbside Pickup

While you are learning virtually, are you interested in curbside pickup for your lunch and library books?

Sugar Hill Elementary is offering a “Feed & Read” Curbside Service for you. This means if you are learning digitally, you can pick up school lunch AND books from the media center in one visit! Details about time and days can be found by clicking on Feed & Read Curbside Pickup.

A couple of things to know about curbside pickup:

  • Media Center Book Pickup: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00-12:30
  • In-person students will have their books delivered to the classroom.
  • Lunch Pickup: Monday-Friday from 11:00-12:30
  • Please be sure your child's first and last names are in your car window.
  • Follow the bus lane to the front of the school.
  • Mrs. Teems, Dr. Doker, and Mrs. Lant will be wearing mask to deliver lunch and books to you. You do not need to get out of your car.
  • Bring any media center books to return from the previous week.
  • Click on "How to Hold Books Through our Media Catalog" to learn how to hold your books through Destiny so your books can be ready on your pickup day.

Looking forward to providing lunch and getting books to our awesome Sugar Hill readers!

Our Little Free Library

Located just outside the school (in the car rider lane) is our "little library" of books for your child. Although this resource is limited and not digital, the Little Free Library is available for those students who like to hold a book while reading! We are monitoring it weekly to add to the box as needed.

Online Research Library: Databases via eClass

Your child has access to multiple digital resources on the Online Research Library (ORL). Three of my favorite resources are: BookFLIX, TrueFLIX, and Tumblebooks. These resources provide digital reading of fiction and nonfiction material. Each of these resources, along with many more can be found under DATABASES on the Online Research Library. Your child has to be logged into eClass to use these resources. Then they will click on Online Research Library to go to the databases. Click on ORL Database Tutorial if you want to learn how to navigate this resource.

Online Research Library: Mackin eBooks

MackinVIA houses numerous eBooks for your child to discover and read! These resources can be found under eBooks on the Online Research Library (ORL). Your child has to be logged into eClass to get to eBooks. NEW books were added to the collection! Click on the ORL eBooks Tutorial if you want to learn how to navigate this resource.

eBooks via Media Catalog

Students can access eBooks from our media center. To do so, they will log into their eClass page. They will click on Media Catalog under APPS. Once they are directed to Destiny, they will click "log in," which will automatically sign them into the media catalog (since they are already signed into eClass). Scroll down to eBooks and click on view all to see the 276+ books in the selection. Then you may select any book of interest! You can filter your search by genre, author, title, etc. Click on Media Catalog Tutorial to learn how to navigate to this resource.

SORA by OverDrive

You are able to access ebooks and audiobooks through Sora by OverDrive. Click on Sora to learn how to access these resources via your child's eClass page or by downloading the Sora APP to your phone. Sora can also be accessed through your child's Google Drive in their Google apps icon (the waffle).

Of course, the Gwinnett County Public Library has numerous resources available for you, too! Your child's Branch Out Account gives them access to a multitude of online resources through the GCPL. Your child is automatically enrolled in Branch Out as a part of GCPS unless you opted out.

Like the TumbleBook Library, TumbleMath offers a comprehensive collection of math picture books with animation and narration. To reach this resource, log into eClass and then click on your Online Research Library under APPS. From there you will scroll down alphabetically until you get to TumbleBook.

Also, this resource is available at the Gwinnett County Library. Simply click on Gwinnett County Public Library Digital Resources. Then scroll alphabetically to the bottom until you get to TumbleMath. Click on it. Your child will use his/her student number and birthday (MM/DD) to use this resource.

When you find a book YOU love, reading is guaranteed to be relaxing and fun!
