Passionate about Serving Others

Letter from Kim

For those of us who live in America it seems like winter will NEVER end! Am so thankful that even though the ground is covered with snow and the air is bitterly cold that the sun is shining and the sky is blue. There really is so much to be thankful for, but so often we tend to focus on the negative things in our life. I am so blessed to be able to share Kenya with those of you who have come on the mission trips and am passionate about each of the girls at THE OLMALAIKA HOME. Each girl's life is so very valuable and they all represent a new beginning for their generation. I long for the day when female genital mutilation will come to an end and all girls will be able to complete their education.

I cannot thank each of you enough for all that you do to make each of these girls' dreams come true. You might think it is not much, but your prayers, donations, and sweet letters of encouragement, plus little packages mean so much to them! Thank you for enabling their lives to be changed.

Newsletter ~

Today I started thinking how nice it would be to have a newsletter with little updates and pictures. Several people have asked me if they could get on our mailing list and so I thought I better get with it and put together something that would help you be able to keep up with what we are doing and encourage more people to get involved.

So here is our very first edition! If you would like to do a little article or have any suggestions please let me know. I would love to incorporate them in it.

We would like to introduce you to Greg & Leanna Powers and their family. Greg is a software developer for Goodyear Tire & Rubber in Ohio and they have four children ages 21, 12, 11 and 6. We have asked him to join GVM as our treasurer and we are thrilled that he has accepted. I am hoping that the entire family will join us at some point on one of our trips to Kenya.

Web Page

We have re-done our website and would love for you to stop by and visit it! All the information you need for the trips is posted including the weather in Kenya, visa information, immunizations and more.

While there, check out the NEWS/UPDATES and GET INVOLVED pages to see what special projects we are working on. Before you leave take a minute or two and share your thoughts on our guestbook page.

Upcoming Trips

The March trip to Kenya is just around the corner (there is more detailed information down below). All three trips are still open to anyone who would like to join them. Remember you don't have to be in the medical or dental field to participate, and families/students are more than welcome!

July 9-21 - will take you deep into the heart of Maasailand and is by far our most remote trip of the year. We still need dentists for the July trip- pass the word on. Following this trip there is an optional safari and you can climb Mt Kenya (16,400ft)

October 8 - 21 - is a mixture of hotel and camping/cottage in Maasailand, but not as remote as the July trip. Following this trip there is an optional trip to the coast.

March Medical/Dental Mission Trip to Kenya

Wednesday, March 5th, 4:15pm to Tuesday, March 18th, 11pm

We would love it if you would join us on this trip. The clinics are provided in areas that don’t have much medical or dental care available, or the people in the area cannot afford it.

The care is given freely to those who come and are in need and our focus is not on how many patients are treated or the number of teeth extracted, but instead on building relationships and reflecting our Maker. Here is the link to ZAWADI our journal for the trip ~

Kenya is a warm and inviting country – the people are amazing! When you leave, your heart will always hold a part of Kenya in it. You will have made a difference and your life will be changed
