January Newsletter 2020
Elton Gregory Middle School
Regular School Attendance = School Success
Happy 2020! The new year often brings about new goals and resolutions. At Elton Gregory we have a school wide goal to improve our attendance rate to 95%
95% means that students are missing on average no more than 2 school days in a trimester. In the first trimester we had over 400 students who met this goal!
In December we started a new trimester and we will repeat our trimester attendance incentive. For students who meet the goal of 95% attendance for trimester 2, they will be entered into a raffle to win a skateboard from Redmond Snow and Skate or a scooter from Trinity Bikes.
Each month we will also be celebrating our students who have perfect attendance with small treats and incentives.
Our teachers work very hard to provide a meaningful learning experience for your student each day and we look forward to working with your students in 2020!
Thank you for your generosity!
Parent Teacher Conferences January 30th and 31st

In Case of Inclement Weather
How closure/delay decisions are made
Decisions regarding inclement weather delays or school cancellations are made in the early morning. When a forecasted storm arrives overnight, members of the district team are up before 4:00 a.m., checking road conditions from Alfalfa to Terrebonne/Crooked River Ranch and Eagle Crest to Tumalo. They are also communicating with city and county road departments and other school districts in Central Oregon to determine if roads are safe for bus travel. The decision to cancel school for the day, or delay start times, must be made by 5:00 a.m. before buses begin their routes.
If school is delayed the school opens and breakfast is served starting at 9am and classes begin at 9:31am.
How decisions are communicated
Once the decision to delay and/or close has been made, that information is communicated to parents using the district’s automated phone system, on the district website, Facebook and immediately through local media outlets.
We understand that decisions about school schedules and bus route changes have an impact on our families. We appreciate your patience during these situations. While we know that our students and families are best served when we are open, our main concern is the safety of our students and staff. If you feel that current weather conditions are unsafe, the district respects your decision to keep your student(s) home for the day. Please remember to call your student’s school to report the absence. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
District’s automated phone system
Redmond School District uses an autodialer system that calls and texts the phone number you have on file at your child’s school in the event of inclement weather or emergency notifications.
Please ensure that your profile is up to date at your student’s school.
As always, please call our district office at 541-923-5437 if you have any questions.
