Tisch's Tidbits
Field Trip
An orange permission slip will be coming home today for our ZMS field trip. It will take place on May 4. We will be meeting the counselors, touring the middle school, learning about next year and practicing opening up lockers. The field trip is free and this is one we won't need parent chaperones. We will eat lunch as usual, so no need for a sack lunch.
Locks
Speaking of locks, Mrs. Lockhart came into our classroom today and taught us how to use a combination to open a lock! This is one of the biggest causes of stress when making the transition to middle school. Hopefully after learning how to open a lock and playing lock-off today, it will help ease this upcoming task. You can play lock-off at home! All you need are two locks with numbers on them. Your child played it today and can teach you at home!
Library Books
The last day for student check-out will be Friday, May 4th. All student library books will be due back to the library by Friday, May 11th.
Famous Hoosiers
We have started reading our sources and are taking notes on our Famous Hoosier. You child may find some gaps in information and may need some help finding what they are missing. Other than that, it is smooth sailing here at school. Also, feel free to start looking for items your child can wear for the Wax Museum which will be held on Wednesday, May 16 at 1:30.
ISTEP
Just a reminder that next week and part of the following week we will be testing for ISTEP each morning around 9:30. A recent study suggests that chewing gum before a test may give brains a short, cognitive boost. I would love to offer the kids a stick of gum to chew during testing. It looks as though we need about 20 packs to make it through all of the testing days. If your child is unable to chew gum, please let me know. If you would like to contribute a pack of sugar free gum, feel free to send it it anytime this week! I'll be picking up a variety over the weekend, too. Thank you for considering. :)
Kleenex
We are down to our last two boxes. If you have an extra at home and would like to donate it to our classroom, that would be lovely. Since we are going on month six of winter, the sniffles are lingering. Thank you!
Friday is Animal Day
Mrs. Whiteman's class is completing a project focused on animals. They will be having a dress like an animal day on Friday! Please bring a quarter to support their project. I'm sure my daughter, who is obsessed with cheetahs, can't wait to wear her cheetah print shirt!
MakerSpace Projects
It has been requested that the the projects that have been on display for the school to see be collected by the end of the day tomorrow. Some of them are small enough where they will be making their appearance at your home this evening. If it is too large to take on the bus, feel free to come into school to get it. Thank you for your help. The projects were amazing!
Noetics
We completed our Noetics math test on Friday. The kids did a fantastic job! I have submitted the scores and now we wait. Awards and results should be out next month. I'm so proud of this class and how hard they worked!!

Kroger Gives Back!
Now that Kroger is rocking our worlds with their new stores and low prices, they’re also going to help our school!
If you haven’t gotten a Kroger Plus card yet, sign up for one and then add Union Elementary to your Community Rewards organization name.
If you already have a Kroger card simply hop on your computer and follow these easy steps…
1.) Scroll down to the bottom of the page.
2.) Click on “Kroger Community Rewards”
3.) Click on “View your rewards details”
4.) Scroll to “Community Rewards” and click “Edit”
5.) Type in 31364 and hit “search”
6.)Click on Union Elementary, and hit “Enroll”
Let Grandma and Grandpa know how easy that was, and get them signed up too. Now Kroger will give Union a percentage of what you spend which helps in many ways. This small action helps buy school supplies, instruments for music class, and much more. Thanks for your support. If you have any questions or need help please contact Brittany Henney at Brittanykay1@gmail.com
2nd Semester Volunteers
The second semester is here! If you are interested in helping me prepare some things for the classroom or possibly work with a small group, I would love to have your help! I am flexible with times, so just let me know the time you will come. I have a break from 8:30-9:00 each day so this is an easy time for me to show you what to do. My lunch varies on the other days between 12:00-1:00. Thank you in advance for all of your help!
If you would like to volunteer, the link is:
