Mental Mondays During Husky Time
This past Monday was our 2nd Mental Monday (Tuesday for those who have Monday Recess).
The topic for 5th grade was "Start with Hello!" The idea behind “Start with Hello” is to bring attention to the growing epidemic of social isolation in schools, and to encourage students to build lasting relationships with others to end the overwhelming feeling students have of being left out or alone.
- Students watched a video about an initiative started at one high school to ensure that no one eats alone at lunch. Students made name tags and got to know others in their Husky Time class, along with being encouraged to strike up a conversation with someone new at lunch.
- Students wrote their name and one positive thing about themselves on a Paw that are displayed in the school. Students were also given a Human Bingo Sheet to complete for Dog Dollars by the end of the week.

The topic for 6th grade was "Power in Your Words!" A key component of working the Capturing Kids' Hearts process is teaching the students how to be accountable for their actions and how to be KIND...always.
- Students worked in groups to talk about what negative comments can do to a person. Comments can destroy a person’s self image and often leads to a person feeling defeated.
- Students watched a video from the Ellen Show about how 2 young men at a middle school were picking on another student and how they later thought about what they did and went back to make it right.
- Students then passed around a heart with their name on it, and everyone in the group wrote one positive comment about that person on the paper.

Pillars of Character Sheets and TOGO Trust Cards
This year, we are continuing our culture of trust, respect and responsibility. This week, students will be given a Pillars of Character Sheet, similar to a BINGO Card (see example below). Each student has to complete a row of tasks (either horizontal, vertical or diagonal) to receive his/her TOGO Card.
Students began receiving their TOGO Cards this week!! The students who have already completed the Pillars of Character Sheets will receive their TOGO Card. Others can take however long they need to complete the Pillars and to earn their card. The students will wear their TOGO Card around their neck like an ID card every day. It is the responsibility of the students to remember their TOGO Card each day.
