Happy New Year! A few items to note in the upcoming weeks & months:
We’re having a dine-out with Q’Doba on January 18th. Use the link to obtain the code so that Hornung can receive 25% of the fundraiser sales. Dine-in or carry-out:

Volunteers are really needed for the Glow Dance on January 19th. If your child is registered, perhaps you could lend a hand? This is quite critical to making the event a success:

January 22nd - 26th, we’ll collect used markers and batteries for recycling. Please bring in dead batteries, dry markers & highlighters of any brand to be recycled. The collection bins will be outside of the Hornung office. This is a part of our Green Schools initiative and helps us earn credit.
February 8th & 9th will be our next Hornung Hut. Kids may buy school supplies and trinkets for anywhere between 50-cents and $5 during lunch.
Wednesday, May 8th will be our first “Hornung's Got Talent!” show at the Brighton Center for Performing Arts. More details will come soon.
Our next PTO meeting is February 2nd.

Free Book Table!
Hello Hornung Families! If you are cleaning out your home libraries over break, we are taking donations for our free book table of gently used picture or chapter books. It's been going really well so far this week and we want to make sure we are never depleted of our supply. We plan to do it before spring break, as well as summer break. Thank you!
BAS Mental Health and Wellness
As a district we are increasing our efforts to support the Mental Health and Wellness of our students, families and the community by focusing on Relationships, Student Wellness, and Increasing a Mindset for Learning and Growth. Each week we will share a Tip/Resource.
Additional resources and information can be found on our BAS Wellness & Mental Health website or download the new App by typing in Brighton Area Schools on the itunes store or google play. This app will allow students, parents, staff and community members access to resources and support in the areas of Mental Health & Wellness. In addition, you can receive notifications on what is happening throughout BAS and be updated on future events and information.
Attention Livingston County Parents!
In an effort to proactively support students' overall well-being, we're partnering with ParentGuidance.org to provide a monthly virtual Mental Health Series developed by licensed therapists.
This series will be virtual, interactive, and is designed to help parents and caregivers support students. Starting in November, you can join these monthly sessions both on-site at your district or online for remote viewing. Attendance and interactions are kept completely anonymous from other viewers.
Hornung's Yearbook 2023/2024
Please be aware Yearbooks are NOT part of your student's picture packet. It is a completely different ordering process. Please use this link to order Hornung's Yearbook. .

Order it now and that's one less thing you need to do later in the year. Yearbooks will be delivered in May, before school is out for the summer

Friendly Reminder - Therapy Dog
We wanted to share a friendly reminder to our families about pets on school grounds. Because our school has a therapy dog, we ask that non-service animals be kept at home. This is for the safety of our therapy dog, Suzie. When Suzie is at school she is trained to do a job. When other dogs are on the property during school hours it is distracting for her and/or could put her in potential danger.
Thank you for understanding.
Important Reminder!
Reporting Your Student's Absence in Parent Connect
There is a helpful feature in Parent Connect that allows you to enter your student’s absence. Simply log into parent connect and click on the link Report Absence. The Report Absence link will open a screen for you to complete. If you have more than one student check the name of the student for whom an absence is being submitted. Add the applicable dates. If you check the All Day flag attendance will be submitted for the am and pm periods. If you do not check the All Day flag times must be entered and attendance will be submitted for whichever periods meet during the time range (based on period schedule). If you use Parent Connect to report your child's absence you do not need to call the attendance line.
