FLYER FOR END OF CHAPTER 4
ACID RAIN
Carbon Dioxide, Sulfur Dioxide, Hydrogen Chloride all create an acidic solution.
Carbonic Acid - Dissolved Carbon Dioxide
Sulfur Dioxide - "acid rain" - kill forrest, pollute water (river, lake, pond)
(Found in volcanoes and industrial pollution)
Limestone/Sinkholes
Limestone: porpous (holds water), soluble in water (carbonic acid), soft
FLORIDA SINKHOLES HAPPEN BECAUSE: lots of limestone, water underground (aquafor), once covered with ocean (soft calcium deposits 'dead animals')
Sulfuric Acid
Discovered in 8th century by alchemist: alchemy "chemistry"
Alchemist- try to make gold out of everything
USES:
Lead Acid batteries (cars)
Fertilizers
Steel industry (prevents rust corrosion)
Dried fruit production (hydrotropic)
