SRO Student of the Week
Hats-Off Teacher Award Recipient
A grateful parent wrote, "Being new in 6th grade is hard. Mr. Carmichael cares about his students and is always found in the hallway helping everybody out. Thank you for all of your help with this transition and being out there with the kids helping before they need to ask. You’re the best. You made fear disappear and the kids ready to learn and excel in their new environment."

Message on Masks
Please see the below message sent to families on September 9th, 2021.
“Today, we want to reiterate the district’s commitment to the health and safety of our students as well as keeping schools open for in-person learning. On September 8, 2021, the Board of Education approved a resolution requiring masks for everyone in schools and on buses aligned with Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) guidance. The requirement will take effect on September 10. Please read below for more details. Thank you in advance for your support.
Masks: Masks will be required for everyone in schools and on buses (including visitors, volunteers, and spectators) starting on September 10. Students should bring masks from home. Students who do not bring a mask to school or the bus stop will be provided with one. Masks will not be required outdoors. Contact your school nurse for information on waivers for an identified medical condition.
Athletics/Activities: Students voluntarily participating in Weld RE-4 athletics and activities are required to sign a participation waiver, which will be distributed by their school the week of September 13. While an athlete is actively participating on the court, mat, or playing surface, no mask is required. When a player is on the bench/sidelines or waiting to participate, a mask is to be worn properly.
School Meals: School meals are free for all students for the 2021-2022 school year. High school cafeterias will continue to operate normally. Elementary and middle school meals may be served in classrooms or alternate locations (including outdoors). We are in need of parent volunteers to provide additional support to our food services staff during lunchtime at our elementary and middle schools. Please check with your school about volunteering. Individually packaged food is recommended for celebrations.
Events: There are currently no capacity restrictions in place. To attend events inside a Weld RE-4 building, masks are required. Masks are not required for outdoor events.
COVID Notifications: When a school is made aware that a member of the school community has tested positive, it will send out a message to those impacted. According to CDPHE, quarantines are not necessary if both the infected person and close contact were wearing a mask at all times during the exposure. Students who are symptomatic or who are being tested for COVID should stay home from school.
Remote Learning Procedures: In the event that outbreaks occur (five or more cases in one classroom or among a group of students from different households), classes/activities/groups of students where the outbreak is occurring will transition to remote learning for 14 days.
Expectations: The expectation, districtwide, is that masks will be worn where they are required (indoors and on school buses) and are optional outdoors. Students who refuse to wear a mask on the bus risk losing transportation privileges. Students who refuse to wear a mask at school will be sent home. Additionally, repeated, large-scale, disruptions to learning or safety risks posed by refusals to wear masks (by students or adults) may result in a move to fully remote learning for an entire school. Our priority is the continuity of learning for our students. We hope that will be possible in-school for all students this year.”
New Crosswalks
Our District Needs You!
Weld RE-4 has paid openings at every school for substitutes. We can accommodate requests for half-day, full-day, or long-term commitments. You can choose to work in a certified classroom position or serve in a classified support role. We will accommodate school preferences—work in your child’s or grandchild’s school or in a school in your neighborhood. Serving as a substitute, you will make a huge difference for our staff who are currently strained to provide coverage for their colleagues in addition to their regular duties. Our students need you now more than ever, even if you can just give a few hours a couple times a week.
Learn more about available substitute positions here and please attend a substitute information session at the District Office (1020 Main Street) on September 23 from 8:30-10am. We invite you to share this information with anyone in your network interested in supporting Weld RE-4 students.
Continuity of Learning for Quarantined Students
When students are quarantined from school, either as a cohort or an individual, but are still otherwise well and able to participate in instructional activities, they are expected to engage in their coursework from home by checking all of their Canvas courses for assignments.
For technology troubleshooting assistance, please reach out to your teacher first. If further assistance is required, please reach out to our Helpdesk: 970-686-8020 - Option #1. Please Note: At this time, Weld RE-4 is not supporting printing from home-based printers.
STUDENT AND FAMILY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Students should complete instructional activities assigned by teachers within the expected timelines. Students should participate in check-ins, discussions, and other communication mechanisms as expected by the teacher.
- Students should review teacher feedback and complete any follow-up activities as assigned by the teacher.
- Students and families should proactively notify their teacher or a school administrator with any concerns about progress or additional support needed.
- Families should support students in being successful by establishing routines and habits that support their success in at-home learning.
- Families should ensure that students are adhering to their school’s contract for appropriate behavior on web-enabled devices.
