CHEETAH BYTES NEWSLETTER
November 2019
PRINCIPAL'S CORNER:
Thank You
November is a perfect time of year to reflect and to practice gratitude. Do you have a moment to send a quick thank you note or email to a staff member at Natoma Station Elementary? A simple note of appreciation can change a staff member's day. Positive connections between home and school foster mutual respect, which in turn create a stronger learning environment for all. We encourage you to share a quick thank you with someone who has a positive impact on your child.
Thank You Parents
Natoma Station staff appreciate your partnership as we work as a team to create the best learning experiences for all of our students. Your work in providing a caring environment at home that nurtures your child's love of learning provides a solid platform for us to build on at school. Our work together allows great learning to happen academically, socially, and emotionally. Thank you for your hard work and for your ongoing support.
Announcements
Staff Updates: Please welcome Erika Urbina to Natoma Station. Erika helps with yard supervision in the kindergarten playground during lunch. We have also added two instructional assistants to our staff. Rajeswari Sudhakaran and Priyadarshin Khanna will be supporting our students with special needs. Welcome to Team Cheetah!
Help Wanted: We are currently looking to fill yard supervisor openings. If you like to be around kids and are looking to work part time hours, please come in to the office for additional information or call us at 916-294-9145.
Celebrations
Classroom supports provided by our volunteers are so important to the daily success of our students. By now, our fingerprinted parent and community volunteers are helping in a variety of ways. These include chaperoning on field trips, helping with recent classroom fall celebrations, running classroom centers/stations, First Grade Farm Day, class projects, art lessons, lessons and upkeep of our school garden, and room parent coordination. We are so grateful for your support! You make our school GRRREAT!!
Special thanks to our PTO and to Savina Yee for putting on a spooktacular Trunk or Treat family event on October 18th. The trunks this year were so creative and the Cake Walk was a huge hit with our young ghosts, witches, and superheroes!
Our Cheetah Chase PTO fundraiser was a huge success this year and we raised over $21,000!! Thank you to our PTO and to Jen Jarvis for organizing this important event. The students watched with great enthusiasm as I kept my promise and puckered up for a sweet pig named Winnie!
There are many simple ways that you can continue to support our school. If you are an Amazon shopper, log on to http://smile.amazon.smile with your amazon account and select Natoma Station Educational Foundation as the charity that you would like to support. A percentage of your purchase amount goes directly to support our school. Easy as pie!
In addition, Box Tops can now be collected through an app. There's no need to clip and save, just download the Box Top app and scan your receipts. It will scan all participating product UPCs and will send the amount directly to NSE. For more information, click on the link: https://www.boxtops4education.com/ .
Tips for Parents
We live a world where digital interactions and communication are on the rise. As educators and parents, we have to consider the impact that hours of screen time can have on young students. Atlanta Speech Therapy has created a simple and straightforward visual that explains some of the ways that too much screen time can affect children's development. Please click on the link: http://atlspeechtherapy.com/screen-time-the-affect-on-your-childs-development/screen-time-virtual-autism-fb/ We live in a community that offers so many beautiful outdoor trails and parks within walking distance. Please ensure that your child spends time outdoors and regularly interacts in engaging ways with family and friends.

Closed Campus and Visitor Sign In
The safety of our staff and students is our number one priority at Natoma Station. Please remember that our campus is a closed campus during school hours. Please sign in to the office if you are visiting or volunteering in your child's classroom. If you are picking up your child at the end of the day, we ask that you wait near the front of the school by the rose garden or by the gate on Ashcat Way until you hear the dismissal bell. Teachers are often using the blacktop at the back of the school for class PE activities and it is important that there are no adults on campus who have not signed in. Thank you for your understanding.

Fall into the season of GRATITUDE with a little giving
In an effort to give back to those less fortunate than us, we are trying something new this year. Displayed in our office window are 42 leaves, each with a wish list item from a teacher at a less advantaged school in our district. Although this school is in our district and not far from us, its needs and resources are significantly disproportionate to what we at Natoma Station are so fortunate to have.
To show how thankful we are for what we have and to give back to those in need, please consider adopting a teacher/classroom at our sister school, Cordova Meadows Elementary by choosing a leaf (item) from the office window. Items should be selected and purchased on or before 11/18. Please bring your donated item to the office with the leaf attached and give it to Mrs. Thomas or Mrs. White.
We will deliver the items to the students and teachers at CME on 11/20.
“Giving is not just about making a donation, it’s about making a difference”
