Orientation information for new teachers


The Library is located at the heart of the school, off the quad and next door to the staffroom.


The Library is staffed by a full time (term time only) qualified Library Manager, Mrs Dee Brooker, who works from 7 30 am to 3 30 pm, a part-time Library Assistant, Miss Amanda Briggs, Duty teachers and Student Librarians. Mrs Brooker can be contacted in person, by email d.brooker@wbhs.school.nz or by phoning x 760.

Orientation for Year 9 students

All Year 9 English classes have an orientation session in the Library in the first couple of weeks of Term 1.

Library OPAC (catalogue)

The OPAC can be accessed at home and school. On the WBHS website select School/Facilities/Library and click on the Oliver search box. Any requests for loan or reservations should be emailed to Mrs Brooker d.brooker@wbhs.school.nz

Library and IT Suite bookings

We have two bookable spaces - the Library (up to two classes if compatible) and the IT Suite (ten computers). Bookings can be made by email d.brooker@wbhs.school.nzl or in person.

How can we help you?

We can provide assistance to student and staff in selecting books for personal reading, reading logs or the curriculum purposes.

We can provide you with boxes of books on topics or high-interest reading books from WBHS or we can obtain them for you from National Library.

We can demonstrate the EPIC databases. Login details are on all the Library computers or you can request an EPIC card. EPIC can be used from home or school.

We are able to assist in helping students log on to the WBHS computers, including re-setting passwords and help with printing.

We issue and return textbooks and can provide reports on individual titles. Covering of textbooks is charged at 50c per book to the Department.

We can laminate posters larger than A3 size. Smaller posters can be done in the main office.

Library promotions - Authors/Illustrators/poets/Dads 'n' Lads evenings

The Dads 'n' Lads Literary evening is held every two years and writers and illustrators are invited to WBHS Library to encourage reading. Spooks series author, Joseph Delaney visited in Term 1, 2013 and Des Hunt in Term 2. Plans are underway for some celebrations for Poetry Day in Term 3.
