HRMS NEWS
April 8, 2021
Dear HRMS Families,
This newsletter has information on the return to in-person learning, keeping our kids safe, school pictures, and volunteer opportunities for our 8th grade families at HRVHS.
Return to In-Person Learning
I hope that you are hearing good news at home! It has been so, so great to have the kids back at school. The return has been mostly “smooth” in terms of schedules and safety procedures. I am thankful for your communication and support during this time in our history.
Keeping our Kids Safe
The first and most important way to keep all of our kids safe and to ensure continuation of in-person learning is to keep your kids at home if they are sick. Thank you so much for telling us when your kids are ill. Families will be contacted when you notify the school that your student is sick to help determine if the symptoms are consistent with COVID-19. If they are, a quarantine will be required. All students in quarantine will have access to their classes through live streaming.
Please the flyer for more information on how to get a COVID-19 test for all students at the School Based Health Clinic at Hood River Valley High School. Testing for students is FREE.
School Picture Day
School pictures are back! We will conduct school pictures over three days to ensure safety. You will receive a mailing at home with more information on how to purchase pictures. All students will receive a free student body card.

Volunteer Opportunity for 21/22: HRVHS Boosters Club
Please check out this letter from Erica Gerald about opportunities with the HRV Boosters
I am the President of the HRV Booster Club. This is my final year on the Board of Directors due to term limits and we are recruiting families not only for board positions but also for committee positions. These last 2 years we have reset the club, updating the Bylaws, defining our scope,
scholarship fund, relationships with not only the Athletic Dept but also Clubs, Music and Arts and laid the foundation for growth and fundraising including creating a 360 relationship goal with the community.
I started as a Freshman parent on the Board and I think it's a great way to get involved. There are board roles that are less demanding and committee roles that require more short-term involvement. If you have any parents that you think would like to continue being engaged or re-engage with the schools, please forward my email address to them. I would love to let them know about the Booster Club, our mission and how they can get involved (without their student being uncomfortable ;) ).
Board positions are: Merchandising (in charge of swag), Public Relations (in charge of social media, website, newsletters and robocall announcements) , Membership (responsible for letters to families, having a presence at the start of school, business sponsors), Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President and President. Each position has a committee of volunteers so the board member isn't doing all the work, they are directing the work, approving it, sharing the progress and/or product with the board for approval. It's based on the idea of many hands make light work. Term limits are 2 consecutive yrs max in any one position. 3 consecutive years max on the board. You can take a year hiatus and re-join if that makes someone happy. We don't vote anyone into a specific board position, Once you are voted onto the board, during the first meeting (3rd Monday of June) the new board members decide who is going to be best suited for the available positions and then they get to go from there.
