Carver Elementary
Family Engagement Edition September 2023
Dear Families,
The start of the school year has gone extremely well thanks to all of YOU, our families, the staff and the students. We have practiced our first fire drill, routines are beginning to become more solidified and the students are working hard identifying their goals for the school year.
Please help us by sending in your hopes and dreams for your student (s). We will be displaying them throughout the school. Hard copies of the hopes and dreams handout were sent home with students. If you need an additional copy, you can ask your child to bring another home, print it from here (see below) or call the office.
A special thank you to everyone who made it to our back to school "Freeze for a Photo." We will be displaying family photos throughout the school hallways.
Sincerely,
Ruby C. Maestas
IMPORTANT REMINDER
It is very important for students to stay hydrated during the school day. All students need to bring a water bottle daily. There are filling stations located in the building for students to use.

Families are invited to join us at the school for the outdoor event, the schedule will be forthcoming. If we have inclement weather and need to move the event indoor, only the grade level students are able to fit in the gym for a glow run. This is our big fund raiser for the year. This fund raiser provides a tremendous opportunity to raise funds which help enhance our students school experience. Most of these funds go toward field trips, school assemblies and/or other special events. Your child's participation is optional but please feel free to contact either the PTO or any of the school administrators if you have any questions at all. Your support is greatly appreciated to help this school wide community event be successful.
Lookout for more information in the coming weeks.
Thanks for your support, Carver Elementary School families!Math and Literacy
Math and Literacy Instructional Coach
Meet Mrs. Kelley ~ CES Math Instructional Coach
Hi Math Friends! My name is Jennifer Kelley and this is my 18th year at Carver Elementary School. This is my eleventh year as the CES Math Instructional Coach. Before becoming a math coach I previously taught second, third and fourth grades. My role as an instructional math coach is to work on all math related topics at CES. I directly work with all teachers and students preK-5 as well as the math intervention team. On any given day you can see me in classrooms, co-teaching with teachers, working with small groups of students, and/or in my office looking at data and ways to improve learning in the classroom. I am passionate about improving math instruction at CES! When I am not at CES, I enjoy spending time with my husband and daughter. We love being on the ocean in our boat, spending time at the beach, traveling, reading, watching football, and enjoying time with our family and friends. I am looking forward to working with the students and staff at CES this year!
Meet Mrs. Moore ~ CES Reading Instructional Coach
Hi Book Buddies!
My name is Kate Moore and this is my 20th year teaching! This is my 5th year as the CES Reading Instructional Coach. Prior to coming to CES, I was a classroom teacher, special educator, and reading specialist. My role as the reading coach is to promote literacy through engaging students in reading and writing each day. I support all preK-5 teachers and students, as well as the reading intervention team. I can be found in classrooms working with teachers and students and/or in my office looking at data and ways to improve learning for all students. Getting students to love reading and become immersed in the world of books is a passion of mine! Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two young, active boys. We love going to the beach, spending time in the mountains of Vermont, traveling, and exploring new local spots! This year, I am looking forward to working with students, staff, and families!
Our school app is sunsetting.
Instead we will be using ClassTag and Aspen for school to home communication. It may help to delete the app from phones to avoid any confusion.
From the CES Health Office
Being Prepared with Extra Clothing
Students of all ages will occasionally need a clothing change in school due to getting wet on the playground, food/drink spills, bathroom accidents, clothing malfunctions, etc. The Health Office has a very limited amount of clothing to supply students in need of a change. Students tend to prefer and be more comfortable in their own clothing from home. Therefore, *please provide your student with extra clothing* that can be kept in their locker just in case an unexpected need arises. Calling a parent/guardian during the day to bring in a change of clothes creates a potential inconvenience for parents/guardians and also disrupts the student’s day.
Sign up for FREE In-School Dental Hygiene Services
Through a partnership with Cape Cod Community College School of Dental Hygiene, we are pleased to offer free dental hygiene services to students during the school day on Tuesday, September 26, 2023. Please click on the link to sign up. No health insurance information is needed. 9/26 Free Dental Hygiene Sign-Up
Annual Student Health Screenings
All Massachusetts students are required to have in-school health screenings annually unless written request from parent/guardian to decline screening is received for the current school year. In this case, parents/guardians must provide documentation of alternate recent screening done by student’s health care provider.
