Husky Howler
March 10, 2023

This Week's Note From Mr. Evan Chelman, Principal
Dear Hill-Roberts Families,
To say this this Howler is LOADED with information would be an understatement! Next week, we will be celebrating Kindness Week, reading AR Quizzes for March Madness, and competing against other classrooms in ST Math during March MATHness. We also have a fantastic Title 1 Game Night Event coming up for 2nd and 3rd graders. Oh, Chris Poulos will be at HRES on the 16th, thanks to the PTO, to talk to the students about kindness on his cool BMX bike. Please keep scrolling so you can see all of the flyers for details...along with pictures of our students engaged in their learning!
In addition Women’s History Month is a dedicated month to reflect on the often-overlooked contributions of women to United States history. Take some time with your child to have this discussion. Here are a few resources to get the discussion going.

Title 1 Event for Grade
Title I Event
We are so excited to invite ALL Grade 2 and 3 students to a spring event- Family Game Night. This event will be held on Thursday March 23rd from 6:00- 7:30 pm here in our HRES cafeteria/auditorium. Mrs. Morrison and Ms. Nager visited all of our grade 2 and 3 classrooms today to personally invite the students and their families. Every child attending will get to take home a book and enjoy a snack that is being provided by our PTO. We hope that families can drop in and spend some time playing together. The invitation is due back by March 16th. Please return it as soon as you can and we can't wait to see you there!

Kindness Week at Hill-Roberts
Next week will be Kindness week at Hill Roberts.
Although we encourage KINDNESS every day, we are hoping to focus on KINDNESS with a week of celebration. Attached is the KINDNESS schedule for the week with themed spirit wear and ideas on how to bring the conversation of Kindness into your home. There are inspiring videos to watch, songs to sing, books to read and daily kindness challenges.
KINDNESS CHALLENGE:
To encourage a stronger focus on Kindness, kids are invited to "write, draw or attach a picture" of their acts of kindness and bring them in to school to give to their teacher. A from is provided for submissions. For each entry the student submits - they will be entered into a drawing for a Kindness themed t-shirt ( 1 winner k-2, 1 winner 3-4) The more entries the more chances to win. I will collect Kindness submissions until 3/31 and do the drawing the following Monday. If your family engages together in an act of kindness, only one form needs to be submitted but please be sure to put all HRES students' names and teachers on the form.

March Madness

From the Music Room
From the Music Room with Mrs. Torres
Hello, Hill-Roberts Families.
March is Music in Our Schools Month and APS is celebrating by holding a series of multi-level concerts in Bray Auditorium at AHS. On Tuesday, March 28, at 6:00 PM, our Fourth Grade Chorus will be performing, along with bands from Coelho Middle School and Attleboro High School. Details of this event were emailed to fourth-grade families earlier this month but can also be found here Grade Four Chorus Concert.
Goodbye, Mr. Ward
Our student teacher, Mr. Ward will be moving on to his next placement at South Kingstown High School in RI. We have so enjoyed having him here and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors. A letter from Mr. Ward.
In the music room, we have been busy, singing, saying, moving, and playing. Below are some pictures and videos of what we have been working on in grades 3 and 4 this month.
Grade 4 Ribbon Dance Melody
Fourth graders are finishing up a unit on Lunar New Year by learning how to play a pentatonic melody on mallet instruments accompanied by choreographed ribbon movements.
Grade 3 Rhythm Builder Collaborative Compositions
Third graders finished a 5-week long collaborative composition project where they were tasked with composing and arranging several rhythm patterns (ostinati) and performing them for the class.
Be on the lookout for photos/videos from grades K-2 in next week’s Howler.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Torres

Manet Community Health at the APS Welcome Center

On Tuesday, March 14, 2023, Manet Community Health Center will begin a soft start to their in-person hours at the APS Welcome Center. On Tuesdays from 9AM-12PM, bi-weekly, representatives from the Attleboro Manet location will be available for all APS families to complete the intake/scheduling process and insurance navigation for those who are without health insurance. We will begin to finalize the booking process and share this opportunity widely over the next few weeks; at this time only building nurses and Community Support Liaisons have been informed directly. In the meantime, the booking link below can be used if you are in need of primary care or health insurance.
