All members of the school community are encouraged to develop their potential and special qualities in an environment centred on Christ.
From the Principal
Dear Parents
Congratulations to all involved in the Guild Swimming Carnival yesterday. We had fantastic weather and wonderful events in the pool for all the children. Our small senior group meant that we had a few less events than in previous years but the competitiveness and determination from our swimmers was still evident. Thanks to Newman College for allowing us to use their excellent facilities and to all the parents who were on hand to assist.
Congratulations to Dominic on their winning performance and to Sienna for the achieving the ‘Spirit Shield.’ Individual champions are all noted in the swimming summary and congratulations to our age group champions and runner ups. A special mention to Tighe O’Toole who broke the record in his age group for the backstroke event.
Thanks also to Mr Sarsero and all our staff who assisted on the day. The next stage is to select our interschool team based on the results we collected on the day.
This Friday we are allowing all our children to come to school in free dress to focus attention on bringing in their surprise jars. These jars can be filled with particular items of interest and will be sold at the Fair, please refrain from filling them with lollies, as we have a Lolly Stall at the Fair. My jar will have a fishing theme and filled with various items that would interest any fisherman. Jars can be brought into classrooms and we will collect them from there.
School Fees will be sent home at the end of the week with all the information required. There is also a note explaining our P&F levy which assists us in providing extra resources and equipment for the school.
Unfortunately, we were given the news this week that Education Assistant Mrs Bernadette Flynn cannot continue in this role for the remainder of the year and beyond. Bernadette has been an important part of our school staff since 2010 and has recently received news that she will lose some mobility due to a generative nerve damage around her spine. This has been devastating news for Bernadette and her family and our thoughts and prayers remain with her during this challenging time.
Each CEWA school receives daily updates regarding the Covid-19 virus and what particular actions to take. At the moment there is a complete ban on all school related overseas travel that includes all children and staff across all sectors. As the situation develops across the globe and closer to home we will keep parents up to date with information and appropriate responses from a school community aspect.
This weekend is the Dads and Kids Camping Event on the school oval and based on last year’s experience it should be a fun time for all. The campout concludes with bacon and egg rolls on Sunday morning and I look forward to catching up with all the campers then.
Finally, thanks to all our families for responding to calls for items for the School Fair. The response has already been fantastic as we countdown to the Fair on 28th March.
Have a great week everyone!
Regards
Steve Versteegen

Guild Swimming Carnival
On a perfect day at Newman College, the Holy Spirit Years 3-6 students participated in this year’s Guild Swimming Carnival.
The championship events started off our events with 50m races for freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly. The children’s enthusiasm for the day and their efforts to get in the water and help their guild was marvellous to witness.
The Spirit Shield is presented to the guild that demonstrates team support, sporting behaviour and a tidy bay area. This was unanimously awarded to Sienna for their brilliant attitude.
The final placings in the 2020 event saw Phelan finish in third on 159 points, Sienna place in second on 191 points and Dominic take out the title on 218 points.
A big thank you to all the parents who volunteered to help and performed their roles with great aplomb to make for an enjoyable day. I would like to acknowledge the staff (in particular Ms Newton, Mrs Pearton and Mrs Sims) for all of their prior assistance to go with their professional work on Tuesday.
Congratulations to the individual trophy winners and your contribution to your guild:

SPIRIT NETBALL CLUB UPDATE
The club is in the process of registering the teams and setting up the online information for players to register. As soon as this is done, parents will be advised and you can register your player/s.
Club fees will remain at $170 for the season. As in prior years, each week the team is responsible for paying the referee. This is usually managed by the team manager who will allocate team responsibilities. The cost is usually $15 or $20 (this is not included in the fee amount)
The club will hold a short (hopefully 15 minute) AGM this Friday 6th March in the school hall after assembly. This is not compulsory and is really just to review our financial position and ensure everyone is all set for the 2020 season. If you have any items for the agenda, please send them through to hsnetball@yahoo.com.au
