Week of February 4, 2019
Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity
Dear Atholton Families,
We had a week heavily impacted by weather last week. Thank you all for you flexibility as the school system navigated closing, delayed openings, and early dismissals. We had it all! Hopefully, the remainder of our winter season will be less eventful. Report cards will now be issued on Thursday, February 7 instead of Wednesday, February 6.
As we enter the month of February, the Howard County Board of Education has issued a proclamation recognizing African-American History Month. It would also seem to be an appropriate time to revisit how the school system defines three important terms: equity, inclusion, and diversity (see below). It is my goal to ensure that our school environment exemplifies each of these terms and that everyone feels valued and a part of our school community. As I mentioned earlier, I will be holding a Pizza with the Principal event in March to discuss those values most important to our school community.
Enjoy the Super Bowl!
Wishing everyone a fantastic week!
Warmly,
Robert A. Motley
Principal
