Don't Just Google It!
Google has become such a part of our lives that we use it for finding information on everything, even when it isn't the best choice. For finding restaurant reviews, Google is great. For answering academic questions, Google is not your best option. We, as educated information consumers, know how to evaluate quality results much better than our students. Many students think if it is on the internet, it has to be truth. They disregard advertising, bias, and propaganda because they have not been taught to recognize it.
Students should be using databases for academic research. These sources have been vetted for quality and accuracy. Students should be using searching strategies, like Boolean, to narrow search results. Just typing a question into a search bar doesn't work. Students should be researching questions that cannot be answered in a simple Google search. Research needs to address bigger issues and deeper problems.
