A.C. Moore Wins Second National Award

Big picture

On August 25th the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a program founded by the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation, announced that our school has been nationally recognized as a Bronze Award winner for 2020! We join the list of 41 elementary school in the district to be recognized at the bronze level. To be distinguished as one of America's Healthiest School, A.C. Moore demonstrated a commitment to promoting quality nutrition, regular physical activity and implementing strong wellness policies. A.C. Moore alo received the Healthy School Bronze Level Award in 2012.

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s recognition program has awarded schools for their efforts to combat childhood obesity through the implementation of healthy changes within the school environment. Healthy schools often exceed federal standards for nutritious school meals and they seek opportunities for students and staff to be active at school. We are extremely proud of our achievement and we are honored to celebrate and share in the accomplishments of the Richland One community. Because of their belief and value for the health and wellness of the students and adults in the district, Richland One became the second school district in South Carolina to have 100% of its schools named to the national list.

A special Bobcat thank you to the wellness committee members for their contributions to A.C. Moore's success!

Big picture

Today we take the time to honor the lives that were lost on September 11, 2001 and to recognize the courageous acts of the first responders and personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice while trying to save others during the terrorist attacks. In recognition of Patriot Day and a National Day of Service and Remembrance, it is our hope that you are able to find a moment to remember those persons and their families or that you have found an opportunity to volunteer in the community. A.C. Moore joins with countless others across the nation to pay tribute to the contributions of others who have dedicated their lives to service and to defending our freedom.

A. C. Moore Prepares to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

Every year our school celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with the support of the Spanish and ESOL teams. Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States. This year A.C. Moore students will experience Hispanic culture through dance!

Through a partnership with Palmetto Luna Arts, a native dance professional from Colombia South America, Harby Gonzalez, will be the featured artist-in-residence at A.C. Moore for the next four weeks. Mr. Gonzalez has performed throughout the USA and abroad with the Washington orchestra Quintango. Taking advantage of the virtual instruction in our classrooms, he has made four instructional videos to teach our students how to dance Latino rhythms. The videos will be streamed from September 14 to October 9 during the artist-in-residence (AIR) time slot on the related arts schedule.

We invite all of our A.C. Moore community to join this cultural celebration!

A Message from PTO

Welcome new and returning families to the 2020-2021 school year! Although our school community is currently operating differently, we are excited to get PTO off and running!

We would LOVE to build our PTO foundation and include as many families as possible in our communications and events this school year. To stay up-to-date on PTO happenings, please click the link below to register for the Bobcat e-Blast! If you are currently receiving the Bobcat e-Blasts, you will still need to complete the form and provide your information. Because we are building a new database, the old information may not carry forward.

We will hold virtual PTO meetings on Wednesday evenings this year. Please review the weekly Bobcat Blaze for more information about our first meeting.

Thanks, and hope to see you all soon!

Social and Emotional Learning

Social-emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships and make responsible decisions.

SEL involves cultivating caring, participatory, and equitable learning environments and using evidence-based practices that actively involve all students in their social, emotional, and academic growth. The goal is to prepare students for long-term success in life and to become responsible, caring members of our multicultural society.
