DuJardin School is doing a "One Book One School" (OBOS) on the book, Wishtree by Katherine Applegate. Visit the DJ OBOS website (see information below) for the reading schedule, daily trivia and flipgrid videos of students and staff reading Wishtree. Thanks to Mrs. Novotny for organizing this wonderful all school activity, follow her on Twitter @novotnysnotes and post about our OBOS using the hashtag #DJREADS
Most teachers spent Wednesday afternoon during our SIP/Early Release time going over student fall to winter MAP data to determine goal progress in both math and reading. Teachers are able to determine if learning goals have been met, additional time is needed to reach each goal, or revisions need to be made. This work will help drive classroom instruction and various math and reading intervention programs for the remainder of the school year. Pilot teachers for the standards based report card met with representatives from OTUS to learn more about an electronic grade book and standards based report card.
Students in third through fifth grades will be taking the Illinois Academic Readiness (IAR) assessments in both reading and math in April. The name of the assessment has changed this year but the assessment itself will remain much like PARCC in the past. The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has determined that the IAR will reflect PARCC like questions for the time being. Changes to this assessment are being planned for the future. More information to come on this assessment period - stay tuned.
Thanks so much to those families who participate in the “Box Tops for Education” program. This money is used for purchasing various things like plants for the planters outside, playground equipment for recess, and to purchase such items as the vinyl CC! posters that are hung up in the hallways of the school. Keep those “Box Tops” coming and special thanks to DuJardin Student Council members and the coordinators, Mrs. Lents and Mrs. Burritt, for organizing this worthwhile fundraiser.
The week of February 4th students in grades 1-4 will take the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test. The OLSAT is designed to measure abstract thinking and reasoning ability. Students in grades 1-2 will take three assessments in verbal and nonverbal modalities while students in grades 3-4 will take one assessment covering both areas. Verbal and nonverbal scores in addition to the total score, provide a more complete picture of students’ abilities. OLSAT results will be shared with parents during the 3rd trimester.
Kindergarten registration will take place during the week of February 25th this year. If you or anyone you know has a child who will be five years of age on or before September 1, 2019 and is a resident of Bloomingdale School District #13, then make sure to register the child for kindergarten. Registration will take place at DuJardin on the following dates and times:
February 25, Monday - 8:00 - 4:00 p.m., February 26, Tuesday - 8:00 - 4:00 p.m.
February 27, Wednesday - 8:00 - 4:00 p.m., February 28, Thursday - 8:00 - 6:00 pm

5Essentials Parent Survey - Please take this survey - Your feedback is welcome!
2018-19 Illinois Parent Survey
Dear Parent, The Illinois State Board of Education invites you to participate in a school improvement survey for parents. Please Note: This survey is NOT a component of the 5Essentials Organizing Schools for Improvement Survey. In this survey, you will be asked to provide feedback about your child’s school. Please consider your child’s current experience at school (i.e., 2018-2019 school year). This survey is designed to help school and district leadership improve their understanding of the parent/school relationship.
All responses are completely anonymous. Responses to anonymous surveys cannot be traced back to the respondent. Additionally, your responses will be combined with other parents from your child's school and summarized in a school report to further protect your anonymity. Your participation in this survey is voluntary and you have the right to discontinue participation at any point.
If you have more than one (1) child, you may elect to participate multiple times.
The 5Essentials Parent Survey is now open. Parents are encouraged to complete this survey. Please use the following link to access the parent survey: http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/
