KINDERGARTEN
This week we are exploring seasons, maps and learning about numbers and place value!:) We are already off to a fun start with our activities. We will be finishing I-Ready testing this week and will be providing the diagnostic results by the end of the week.
If you have any questions regarding your child’s results contact your child’s teacher and we will be happy to go over them with you.:)
FIRST
Our iReady testing has come to a close. Everyone did a great job following school testing rules and procedures. We look forward to reviewing the data to ensure a successful and challenging year for your child! Keep up the great work!
This is a reminder that student textbooks and materials are viewable online through ThinkCentral, Savvas, and Studies Weekly. iReady and AR should be completed by Sunday each week. Students need 45 minutes of iReady math and iReady reading each week (Monday - Sunday) along with AR points.
If you would like to donate, please contact your child's teacher. We love Amazon and Teacher Pay Teachers! All donations are greatly appreciated!
THIRD
Our third grade team is very proud of our students' hard work on the IReady Math and Reading tests! This week we are learning how to draw conclusions and use inferences to learn more about what we are reading. In Science, we are learning how matter changes. Arrays and properties of multiplication are just a few strategies we are using to learn our facts. Sites like multiplication.com are great for fact fluency!
Remember to take an AR test each week! Our goal is 11 points by September 30th.
FORTH
The Fourth Grade Team is pleased with how hard our students worked on the I-Ready assessments! We are looking forward to discussing the data with our students and setting goals to move forward!
Mrs. Michaud’s class has had a very busy week! We have continued reading Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus. We completed another Hyperdoc using “Day of Disaster” to explore the effects of child labor in the past and in the modern day world. In Science, we learned how to take notes to help us study.FIFTH
Fifth graders worked hard this week on the I-Ready diagnostic, and our team is proud of their hard work! We look forward to reviewing this data with students next week, and setting goals for the year, as we move ahead.
In Mr. Rego’s class, we finished our first informative essay practice with an interesting article about the history of soap, as well as we practiced estimating with multiplication in math. Have a great weekend!
5th Grade had a wonderful week of fun and learning! Ms. Galan's and Ms. Saucedo's class presented their US state research; where students created Google Slides, fun and interesting trivia questions and videos about our nation. We look forward to learn more about our country!
SIXTH
In Spanish we are finishing our first Unit. So far we have covered ABC’s, numbers, Greetings and Farewell/Goodbye, and vocabulary words related to feelings. We also practiced a simple Spanish conversation. Please make sure to check Google Classroom for any announcement/update.
In Science we have discussed and explored characteristics for a scientific investigation. We are now breaking down each part of the Scientific Method and starting to move forward with our science fair projects. Students are working on creating testable questions and researching those questions in great detail. Please check Google Classroom for the SF Welcome Packet. This packet has Science Fair deadlines from now until the end of first semester.
In World History, humans are starting to settle down from a Hunter-Gatherer lifestyle to one of sedentary Farmers. Next week we will finally begin the study of our first civilization: Mesopotamia!

STEM
First, let me offer a huge THANK YOU to those students, families, and teachers who have donated to STEM this week! Your donations do not go unnoticed and are deeply appreciated. We look forward to using the recycled material donations, as well as the items generously purchased from the STEM wishlist. Sincerely, we thank you!
STEM Face to Face Learners
This week, our Face to Face STEM students have been working hard to complete their first engineering project! Our K-2nd grade students are using the Engineering Design Cycle to create a prototype statue which is 6 inches tall with two or more colors. These hands on manipulatives are frequently sanitized and cleaned for student use. The 3rd-5th grade students are also using the Engineering Design Cycle to problem solve, by completing the “Help Harry” challenge! In this challenge, students are designing and building a perch for a small stuffed toy using recycled materials. Their creation must have a specific height and meet safety requirements for their stuffed toy. Way to go, engineers!
STEM Innovative Learners
This week, our Innovative STEM students are also working on using the Engineering Design Cycle to create and build using digital manipulatives. For K-1st grade students, digital building blocks are provided as well as task cards having the students build different shapes, such as rockets or castles. For 2nd-3rd grade students, an added challenge to complete tasks only using a specific number of blocks or blocks of a specific type. For 4th and 5th grade students, a rubric is also provided which includes details on how to measure their creations using repeated addition or multiplication. A great start to our online engineering!
PE (Face to Face)
Water bottles, sneakers, and masks are requirements for PE. Please make sure your students come prepared with.
Masks need to fit right over your students' noses and mouths. Some are too big and keep sliding down and exposing their noses. Ove time, elastics for ears get stretched and make masks too big for them. Please check their masks.
Specials Handbook acknowledgement must be turned in by Friday 9/18/2020.
Please join PE Google Classroom even though your students are face to face by Friday 9/18/2020. Join code can be found on on-campus PE Handbook posted on OSES connect.
Wednesday 9/9/2020, K-5 students walked an additional 75 miles. We have reached Pompano Beach, FL: *The city is known for its excellent boating and fishing, accentuated by an offshore living coral reef accessible to scuba divers and snorkelers. *VisitFlorida.com
