Aiming to Keep You Informed
November 2, 2018
From the Office
Just like that, it’s November! We loved seeing all the costumes and creativity on Wednesday for Halloween!
Girls basketball season kicked off this week, and we will host our first home game on Tuesday, November 6, at 3:45pm. We hope to see a great crowd cheering on our teams!
The start of November also means that the end of Trimester 1 is approaching! The first trimester ends on Friday, November 9th. Please check in with your students and check PowerSchool to encourage your students to finish out the first trimester as strong as they began. Grades will be finalized and mailed home by November 19th.
On November 9th, the Wellness Department will sponsor a Bags for Blood Cancer Tournament. All proceeds are donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The cost is $5.00 per person. Students may sign up through their PE/Wellness teacher. Thank you to Mr. Tom Buchholz for leading this fantastic event!
We will recognize Veterans Day on Monday, November 12th. We are fortunate to have several local veterans planning to visit our classrooms as part of our Veterans Day activities. Please reach out to us, if you know of a veteran who would like to join us on the 12th. Our Social Studies department is also leading our effort to collect donated items for veterans exiting homelessness. Please see the flyer for a detailed list of requested items.
Honor Roll Recognition - December 6th
We will have our Honor Roll Breakfast on December 6th from 7:40am - 8:10am. Students who earn a 3.2 or higher GPA for the First Trimester, will be eligible to attend. Parents and relatives of Honor Roll students are also invited to join us! Our PTO will be providing coffee, juice, and treats in the Commons. The morning will include a performance by our Westfield Choir in our gym. Families and students will be able to choose their seating and may sit together. As part of the program, students will be invited to stand and be recognized for their achievement. At 8:15, students will be dismissed from the gym to go to their lockers and all parents and guests will be required to exit the building.
Students will be notified of their GPA in their report cards and will also receive their Honor Roll ribbons with the report card. Attending the Honor Roll breakfast is optional.
Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on November 19th and 20th from 1-5pm and 6-8pm. These are non-student attendance days. Students will not be in attendance the entire week of November 19th.

On Tuesday, November 6th, Westfield will be a designated election polling location. This is a wonderful opportunity for Westfield to participate in one aspect of the civic duty of all Americans. To ensure student safety, voters will enter through the exterior Band Room doors and will not have access to the rest of the building. Students will also not have access to the Band room that day. All visitors with school-related matters should enter the main office as normal. Due to the possibility of increased traffic, we have requested a police presence during drop-off and dismissal times.
Westfield Middle will be hosting our annual Anderson’s Book Fair starting Monday, November 12th through Friday, November 16th throughout the academic day
(8:30-3:30) and Monday, November 19th through Tuesday, November 20th during parent-teacher conferences (1:00-8:00). Please use this opportunity to shop for some WONDERFUL gifts for friends and family members during this time. The profits that Westfield Middle School earns from the sales will be used for future author visits as well as activities to promote THE LOVE OF READING throughout the school year for our students.
Congratulations to the winners of the October Themed Art Contest: Alec (1st), Deeya (2nd) & Kassandra (3rd) (pictured above).
