Unit 2 Reflection
by: Ashley Elam
Introduction
In Unit 2, you will be learning how to solve one step, two step, and multi step equations. In this reflection, I will be showing you how to solve these equations. I will also explain different strategies for solving the equations. Solving equations is fun and easy if you do the right steps.
One step equations
To solve one step equations, draw a line down the equal sign. Then, you want to isolate the variable. So, to get zero on one side you have to do the opposite operation then the one in the equation. What you do to one side, you must do to the other. After you do the same operation to both side, carry down the variable and the equal sign. The end to your equation should be in the format variable = constant.
Two step equations
When you do two step equations your first step should follow the rules of a one step equation. After you either add or subtract from both sides, carry down your answer. Since you want to isolate the variable, you need to get rid of the number in front of the variable. To do this, you need to do the opposite of the inverse operation to get the variable alone. What you do to one side, you must do to the other. Once you either multiply or divide, carry down the variable and the constant. The format the answer should be in, is variable = constant.
Multi step equations
To solve multi step equations you must group all like terms that are on the same sign. Then, combine like terms that are on the same side of the equal sign. After you combine like terms, then you will do the inverse operation to either addition or subtraction. What you do to one side you must do to the other. The do the inverse operation of either multiplication or division. What you do to one side you must do to the other. Then carry down the answer.
