The past two weeks in ELA we continued Unit 5 about courage.
1.We started our book club unit by doing a book tasting. Students sampled 10 different novels and choosing their top 4 that they would like to read. Book Clubs started meeting this week. They set goals as a team each day, and they started the session off with a discussion about the previous days reading. At the conclusion of each session they summarize the reading for the day and answer a prompt. We will have mini lessons along the way, and this week we focused on observing and analysing character relationships.
**Team Unity will be turning in Chromebooks, cases and chargers on Thursday, May 8th.
If your student is ever absent, please have them check Canvas for any missing work by clicking the “What did I miss” button.
Science: Ms. Kenney
These past few weeks in science we finished our Waves Unit.
Students learned about sound and light waves.
Students had their weekly quiz over Light and Sound Waves. Weekly quizzes are formative grades where students show me what they know at that moment. For those reasons, there are no retakes allowed for weekly quizzes. Students should be studying their notes daily for these quizzes.
Then, students took their test over Waves.
Finally, we started our Caine’s Arcade Summative Project.
Next week, we will continue our summative project. Students will need to bring in cardboard for this project.
**Please remind your child to check in Canvas on the Homepage Absent button when they miss class or need to see the slides of notes. Also, please remind them to email me during Statesman Time if they need help. Thank you!
Math: Mrs. Gelb
Math 8:
This past week we continued our study of functions- what attributes a function has, as well as a review of slope and writing equations of lines. Next week we will compare between different forms of functions, review and take a summative on Friday 5/9.
Algebra:
This past week we began Chapter 11, Rational Expressions and Equations. Next week we will continue simplifying rational expressions that contain operations and will begin solving rational equations. We plan to test over Chapter 11 on Wednesday, 5/14. Our Spring Final exam will take place on 5/20 and 5/21. Students already have their review packet and should be completing 5-10 questions a day to prepare.
If your student is ever absent, please have them check Canvas for any missing work by clicking the “What did I miss” button.
Social Studies: Mr. Ward
This past week in social studies, students continued our Unit 3: Cities, Societies, and Empires
We began our new unit, Medieval Europe.
First, students completed a geography assignment. In this assignment, students learned how Europe was divided between different groups after the fall of the Roman Empire.
Students then learned about Feudalism. The system of government and the interdependence that this system fostered.
After studying feudalism, students learned about the Crusades and how religion influenced those wars.
We then briefly covered the Bubonic Plague and its impact on Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Our next unit of study will be Medieval Africa.
If your student is ever absent, please have them check Canvas for any missing work by clicking the “What did I miss” button.
