Dear Families:

Happy Friday first grade families!

We have had a very exciting week! On Tuesday Angelica (Rene's mom) helped us tie-dye our book bags with Kool-Aid! They look great and will be ready to go home on Monday, 9/29, to begin our nightly book bag program. Our book bags will go home, and come back to school every day! This is an essential part of our reading program. Your child will also bring home a reading log each night. First graders are required to read their "Just Right" books for 15 minutes each night. A handy explanation sheet will come home with the books and reading log. If you have any questions please email or text me. We wrapped up things this week with Jess' (Georgia's Mom) homemade applesauce--a delicious treat. No worries, there was plenty of hard work in between!

Our field trip is rapidly approaching! If you have not returned your permission slip yet, please do so immediately! The date is Tuesday, October 10, 2014. We will be leaving at 8:20ish and be back before 2pm.

We are collecting pictures for our family bulletin board. Please send in a picture or two of your family so we add to our first day of school pictures. And you are welcome to walk your child into the classroom in the morning. Most students have settled into our first grade routines and will be able to handle this. You are also welcome to continue saying goodbye at line, it's up to you.

Volunteers are still needed for the 8:15-9:00 time. This excellent and truly exciting volunteer opportunity involves: helping set up and clean up breakfast, checking reading logs, and facilitating amazing centers! Swing by next week if you can help out at this time!

The Jefferson School Governance Council Election Ballot came home in your child's backpack today. Please take a moment to vote, and please return the ballot by 9/30.

Parent/Teacher Conferences are around the corner ( Nov.4-7). Make sure to sign up for a conference so we chat it up about your awesome kids. The sign up sheet is outside on our classroom bulletin board. If none of those times work for you, please email me so can find a mutually workable meeting time!

Have great weekend and see you Monday!

If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at:

Thank you,
Susanne Reed
