Greetings Friends and Family,

What an exciting week we've had. We wrapped up our school fundraiser on Tuesday. Items sold will be given out during parent-teacher conferences in October, as well as the prizes students will be awarded. Thank you to all who participated.

Today we hosted GrandFriends Day. It was nice to meet many of our students' grandparents and have time to chat with them. We appreciate all who came for breakfast and visited the classrooms.

The end of the first quarter is quickly approaching. The first quarter ends Friday, October 14, 2016. Progress reports will be given out at parent-teacher conferences. Be looking for more information coming home soon regarding conferences.

The theme for our class's fall festival basket is BELTON PIRATES! These baskets will be auctioned off at the KT Fall Festival, Thursday October 20th. I will provide the basket. I am asking for donations of anything that would be suitable for the "Belton Pirates" theme. Students may begin bringing in donations at any time. There should be a flyer coming home today addressing the fall basket.

What we learned this week....

  • Math: This week we started our third module that reviews x10, x100 and x1000 concepts, as well as reviewing place value. We've dabbled in area and perimeter formulas and applying them to real-life situations. This module also stretches in multiplication skills and strategies, as well as problem solving in story problems. We continue to practice fact knowledge each day for 15 minutes.
  • ELA/Science/Social Studies: We've been reading various cultural tales from around the world, and comparing and contrasting theme. We've spent time identifying themes and lessons in each tale. We have continued with our personal narrative writing and using personal memories to help us write.

Next Week

Math: Multiplication by 10, 100, and 1,000

ELA: Personal Narratives and Cultural Tales

Social Studies: Geography
