AAC Implementation Training Series
Building Communication Skills Across Environments
Participants will explore vocabulary selection to optimize communication with and among users with AAC. Strategies will be shared to increase each team member's ability to model and maximize communication across lessons, settings, and activities for students using a variety of low-tech and high-tech options.
Intended Audience: K-12 Team-centered training for speech language pathologists and at least 1 other individual who supports the student (e.g., parent, special educators, general educators, related service providers).
Registration and Session Information
- Participants must attend all sessions in the series to receive Act 48 credit; no partial credits given
- Twenty (20) credits will be rewarded upon completion of the series
- The deadline for registration is September 29, 2022

Session 1: Overview & Vocabulary

Overview: After providing an overview of the training series, participants will learn how to increase the use of AAC systems by selecting appropriate vocabulary
Session 2: Activities & Environment
Time: 8:30am - 3:30pm

Overview: Participants will learn how to create lessons and arrange the environment to promote communication and natural interaction for AAC users
Session 3: Partner Strategies
Time: 8:30am - 3:30pm
Location: IMS Room at 475 East Waterfront Drive, Homestead, Pa 15120
Overview: Successful interaction by and with a student who uses AAC is dependent on the Communication Partner. Participants will learn strategies to elicit communication
Session 4: Data, Decision-Making, & Resources
Time: 8:30am - 3:30pm
Location: IMS Room at 475 East Waterfront Drive, Homestead, Pa 15120
Overview: The final session will focus on data collection and writing IEP goals to promote meaning communication for the AAC user.
